Bylaws, tours, drawings part
of Funseekers' April meeting
WEIRTON -- The Funseekers met April 7 at Undo's in Weirton with President Judi Gaynor welcoming 58 members to the meeting.
Birthdays and anniversaries were acknowledged. Joann Bugin led the traditional opening with a brief prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of "God Bless America."
Following dinner, Regina Truax, entertainment chair, introduced the duo of Dave and Shari Watkins, who sang oldies and current selections and led in sing-alongs.
Gaynor opened the business meeting that included the reading and approval of reports from the treasurer and secretary.
Gaynor and Charlotte Christian lead a discussion on the proposed changes and updates to the bylaws. Several areas of concern to members were discussed with revisions suggested. The adopted changes will better reflect the activities and actions of Funseekers, it was noted.
Updated copies of the revised bylaws will be available at the meeting on May 4.

Jeannette Panebianco won the 50-50 drawing. Door Prizes were presented by Larry and Barbara Purks to winners Ron Fallert, Harold Snyder, Diane Segan, Diane Starr, Laura Mamula, Dodie Magone, Barbara Jean Losey, Regina Truax, Joann Llewellyn and Charlotte Christian. Roberta Antinone won the Undo's gift certificate.
Founding member Bernice Balog will present door prizes at the May 4 meeting at Scaffidi's Restaurant in Steubenville.

Buckeye Local online campaign
aided people of Ukraine
CONNORVILLE -- The Buckeye Local High School Art Club sponsored an online charity campaign through social media in April and gathered clothing, hygiene products and medical supplies for the people of Ukraine.
The event was held in conjunction with IC Care of Wheeling, which transported contributions from across the Ohio Valley to the war-torn country.
Adviser Amanda Gruber said it was the first time the 10-member student group conducted a donation drive and they appreciated everyone's generosity.
Local students are winners
in DAR JAC competition
STEUBENVILLE -- The Fort Steuben Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution DAR has announced that students from Harding Middle School and Jefferson County Christian School have won awards in the Junior American Citizen contest from DAR.
The theme this year was the 100th anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, according to Nancy Valles, JAC chairman. The Fort Steuben Chapter received 321 entries. The categories for the contest are art banner, poster, stamp design and photo essay. There also are creative expression entries for poetry and short story categories.
Sixty students from grade one to 12 have received awards from the Ohio State DAR; 29 from the East Central Division, which is a group of five states; and 12 from the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution.
Museum to mark anniversary with re-enactments luncheon
WELLSBURG -- The American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor Museum will mark the 80th anniversary of the defense of the Philippines during World War II with tributes, re-enactments and a luncheon beginning at 10 a.m. May 7.
Located within the Brooke County Public Library at 945 Main St., the museum is believed to have the largest collection of items related to those who fought against Japanese invaders of the Philippine Islands, including the many who walked the Bataan Death March. Those planning to attend are asked to make reservations by calling (304) 737-7295 by Sunday.
Applefest scholarship
applications are due May 5
WELLSBURG -- The Wellsburg Applefest Committee is accepting applications through May 5 for two scholarships it will be awarding to a male and female Brooke County high school graduate living in Brooke County.
The applicants may be home-schooled or attending any public or private school but must be Brooke County residents with a grade point average of 2.5 or better. To be presented in May, the $500 scholarships may be used to attend a college, university, trade school or online credited classes.
Applicants should submit their name, address, e-mail address, preferred contact number, the names of civic organizations in which they have been involved and an essay of at least 250 words describing their volunteer efforts and how those have affected their community or organization.
