Weirton Lions present activity book

2 min read

Earlier this month, members of the Weirton Lions Club visited fourth-grade students at Weirton Elementary School to present Lions coloring and activity books. The Weirton group "borrowed" this project from a Utah Lions Club as a way of educating the students about the activities of the Lions Clubs International in general and the Weirton Lions Club in particular. The activity book contains pictures of Lions to color; word scrambles; missing words; and photos of Weirton landmarks, including the old Weirton Lions Clubhouse located on Marland Heights. Club members collaborated with the principal and teachers from the elementary school to determine the appropriate age group of students to receive the book. Participating in the presentation of the books were front row, from left, students Willow Meyers, Dasan Suggs, Zane Kosharsky and Abby Glyptis; and back, Lions Jim and Linda Petrelle, Assistant Principal Monica Martich and Lion President Gary Pitcock. The local Weirton Club is part of Lions Clubs International, the largest humanitarian volunteer group in the world and in more than 210 countries and territories. The club's activities focus on local Weirton area needs, especially in the areas of vision, diabetes, childhood cancer, environmental issues and hunger. For information, contact Pitcock at (304) 797-8374. Weirton Lions meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Giovanni's Restaurant, located at 3013 Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton. Meetings are open to the public.
