WEIRTON -- Following a two-year hiatus because of COVID-related restrictions, the annual youth morning tennis camp is making a return and will be held Monday through June 10.
Fundamental instruction, skill games and drills will be offered to children in grades one through nine. Children in first through fourth grades will receive instruction from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at a cost of $40.
Those in grades five through nine will receive instruction from 10:30 a.m. to noon at a cost of $50.
Registrations are being accepted at the Millsop Community Center, located at 3420 Main St. Participants will receive a T-shirt at the end of the camp. Each camper needs to bring a tennis racket, water bottle and two cans of USTA-approved tennis balls. Sunscreen also is recommended. There will be tennis rackets available for those who do not own one.

Weir High Class of 1970 talking '70th birthday picnic' plans
WEIRTON -- The Weir High School Class of 1970 is meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Gee's Restaurant at 1229 Pennsylvania Ave.
There will be further discussion about the "70th birthday picnic." All classmates and their spouses are invited to attend.
UMWA Local 1304 to meet
Saturday at Hopedale Legion
HOPEDALE -- The United Mine Workers of America Local 1304 will meet Saturday at the Hopedale American Legion, located at 48225 Rabbit Road, Hopedale.
Breakfast will be at 9:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 10 a.m.
Annual 'chicken blasts' on Wednesday through Aug. 31
WEIRTON -- A local tradition and fundraiser in place for decades continues on Wednesdays with the 2022 installment of the "chickens blasts."
The Serbian Men's Club will hold the first of them Wednesday at the Serbian Picnic Grounds of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church. The picnic grounds are located on Kings Creek Road in Weirton.
The chicken blasts will continue every Wednesday through Aug. 31.
Orders for the hearth-cooked, slow-roasted poultry may be called in from 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. to (304) 748-9866 the day of the sales. Orders must be picked up by 6 p.m. The price this year is $9.
Olde St. John's Episcopal to hold indoor yard sale Saturday
COLLIERS -- Olde St. John's Episcopal Church will hold an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. There will be hot dogs, chili dogs and other food for sale.
Brooke Library is offering
craft class to youth on June 9
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library will hold a craft class for youth, age 8 and up, on June 9.
Participants may come at 11 a.m. or 5 p.m. to create a diamond painting, with all materials provided by the library.

Hancock County Museum
Commission meets Wednesday
NEW CUMBERLAND -- The regular meeting of the Hancock County Museum Commission on May 4 was called to order at the museum with President Vivian Weigel leading in the pledge to the flag.
Those attending were, in addition to Weigel, Lois Carpini, Janet Keller, Marcus Trelaine, Alice Mitchell and Doris Cameron.
Treasurer Marcus Trelaine presented the financial statement which was placed on file for audit. He added that the 990EZ report is prepared and ready to file. This report is due annually if needed.
Under old business, Janet Keller reported Jerry Werkheiser will be installing the new toilet at his earliest convenience. Mike Dulaney has been engaged to install a new electrical panel box in the basement.
Trelaine submitted an updated deed of loan form that was accepted.
The summer lecture series will feature Paul Zuros, executive director of Historic Fort Steuben, on Sept. 18.
Under new business, Weigel reported that Greg Blake has the mueum website up and running with the assistance of the Green Geek Co. Kathy Beagle has offered to maintain a Facebook page for the museum.
Trelaine reported finding a portable microphone noting a cost of about $200.
Vivian reported receiving an invitation from the New Cumberland Festival Parade Committee to participate in the Memorial Day Parade.
The program about the life of W.E. Wells of Homer Laughlin China was to be presented by Trelaine on May 17 at the East Liverpool Community and Learning Center.
Trelaine announced his resignation as treasurer in three months due to other civic duties.
The next meeting will be Wednesday at 2 p.m.
