hold CPR class on May 18
WEIRTON -- The Greater Weirton Senior Center, located at 3425 Main St., Weirton, will be holding a CPR class on May 18 at 3 p.m., according to Tammy Margetic, center director.

Master Gardeners having
plant sale on Saturday
WEIRTON -- The Tri-State Area Master Gardeners Association is gearing up for its annual plant sale which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday in Gabe's parking lot at 211 Three Springs Drive, Weirton.
The association will be offering a wide variety of plants for sale, including perennials and annuals, shrubs, succulents, vegetables and herbs as well as house plants, cannas, hanging baskets and cemetery decorations. Also available will be the 2022 Master Gardener calendar, and there will be a surprise drawing. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer gardening questions about planting, caring for and harvesting purchases made.
Paint and Scoop literacy
night in Buckeye on May 11
CONNORVILLE -- Buckeye Local Junior High School is planning a fun outing for students with a Paint and Scoop literacy night on May 11.
Doors open at 7 p.m., and students in grades seven and eight can enjoy painting activities and sweet treats for the evening.
Principal Jason Kovalski said similar events were held in the past but came to a halt during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now efforts were under way to offer something for the students and school community.
"We used to do something every year prior to COVID," he said. "The kids will do a painting project with gifted teacher Lori Roberts and get ice cream while Kathy Yocumn, tech teacher, will also have her 3-D printer on display. It's a community night to bring parents and kids into the school."
Kovalski added that previous activities drew crowds, and he hoped for another successful turnout this time.
It also was a way to bring some normalcy back to the school following the pandemic.
"We are just trying to get families and the community involved and back in the school post-COVID," he commented.
Kings Creek Union Chapel plans special service May 22
WEIRTON -- Pastor Russ Buchanan of Kings Creek Union Chapel has announced that the church will be hosting Joyce Igo Ministries on May 22 at the 11 a.m. church service and welcomes the public to attend.
"Joyce Igo Ministries has been spreading the love of God and the Word of God around the world since 1992," according to a news release that noted Igo traveled with her pastor husband Denver before his death in 2000. She continued on her own, and today her grandson, Steven Nichols, has joined her ministry.
Nichols is a graduate of Liberty University and an ordained minister. Both are natives of West Virginia and write their own songs.
The ministry has expanded to include feeding children in the Philippines and Ecuador and helping refugees in Italy and Greece. The ministry's reach includes Northern Ireland, Peru and Mexico and other countries. Its international prayer ministry is called the Children of Elijah Intercession Group.

May 12 luncheon for retirees
of Steubenville City Schools
STEUBENVILLE -- Steubenville City Schools retirees met for lunch at Capraro's Restaurant in Hopedale on April 14.
Sympathy cards were circulated and signed.
The next lunch will be held May 12 at North Star Restaurant in McDonald, Pa. The monthly lunches are open to all Steubenville City Schools retirees.
