Toronto Sunrise Seniors
honor mothers and fathers
TORONTO -- The Toronto Sunrise Seniors met at the Karaffa Recreation Center on May 13 to honor mothers and fathers with a banquet celebration.
Guests Don Clarke, Lindsay Clifton and Shirley Rebich were welcomed by President Barbara Pritts, who gave the blessing for the meal. Kitchen committee members Mary Lou and Bob Deku, Marsha McConnell, Judy Sabol, Dorothy Pavelka, Nancy Bodrog and Phyllis Smith decorated the tables with pastel placemats, napkins and floral centerpieces. The meal was catered by Connie's Corner from Chester.
Following the meal, members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and discussed the trip on June 26 to the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center to see a production of "Carousel." There are still eight seats available on the bus, and Pritts can be contacted at (740) 537-4957 if any senior citizen is interested in going with the group.
Several members, including Pritts, Laura Sheets, Sandi Radvansky, Peggy Nordenger and Frank Marino, paid tribute to their parents by sharing personal stories of their life experiences.
Bonnie Wilson and Radvansky were the winners of the 50-50 drawing. Floral centerpieces were won by Bodrog, Betty Pierce, Rex Mossor, Radvansky, Bill Black, McConnell, Darlene Naukam, Wilson and Paul Zink. Frank Marino, Nordenger, Marlene Garrett and Dave Naukam won gift certificates donated by Clarke Funeral Home.
Following adjournment, members played bingo. Joe Radvansky called the numbers. Winners included Sandi Radvansky, Pierce, Ruth White, Zink, Garrett, Smith, Sabol, Black, Marcella McKnight, Debbie Luivisi, Paul Sherwood and Dave Trudick.
The next meeting will be held May 27 at 5 p.m. at the recreation center. Any interested senior citizen is welcomed to join.
ADK Alpha Tau Chapter
discusses ideas for 2023
NEW CUMBERLAND -- The Alpha Tau Chapter (WV) of Alpha Delta Kappa, International Honorary Organization for Women Educators, held its May meeting at the Swaney Memorial Library in New Cumberland.
President Amy Hannahs called the meeting to order, and Chaplain Kathy Griffith gave the "Thought for the Day."
Roll call was taken, and minutes were approved as distributed. Velda Icard, secretary, read a note of thanks from the group's scholarship recipient. Treasurer Fran Jones gave the financial report. Other committee reports weregiven.
The group discussed ways and means ideas for next year.
Hannahs announced that the chapter had received an Honorary Violet Award at the W.Va. state convention. She presented a possible community altruistic project for the group.
Chapter members had a picnic featuring a variety of salads prepared by those attending.
The next meeting will be the executive board meeting, which will be held at Mario's Restaurant in Weirton later in June.
Sycamore Center plans camps for summer music groups
STEUBENVILLE -- The Sycamore Youth Center will be providing a free Summer Strings Camp all summer as well as a Woodwind Ensemble, Classical Choir and private lessons for interested students in grades five through 12, according to Bobbyjon Bauman, center director.
Starting June 7, all group classes meet on Tuesday evenings at the Sycamore Youth Center, located at 301 N. Fourth St., Steubenville. The Summer Strings Class and Woodwind Ensemble run from 6 p.m to 7:30 p.m. with the Sycamore Classical Choir happening from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30.
Free private lessons in violin, cello, standup bass, flute, saxophone or trumpet are available with scheduling director to Bauman at (740) 409-2986. "Due to teacher availability, we cannot guarantee everyone a spot for private lessons, but we will do our best to try to schedule your child in with the appropriate teacher," Bauman noted.

Four Seasons Senior Citizens
entertained by singing duo
WEIRTON -- The Four Seasons Senior Citizens held their May meeting at Undo's with Tom Maxwell presiding.
Tony LaRosa gave the opening prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of "God Bless America."
After dinner members were entertained with songs performed by Shari Jo and Dave Watkins.
Committee reports were read, including one on a get-well card sent.
Larry Purks won the 50/50 drawing, and Undo's gift cards went to LaRosa and Lester Fridley. Other prize winners were Bev DiBaise, Carolyn Shaffer, Tom Maxwell, Norma Yoho and Ron Fallert. Josie Cekinovich and Larry Purks won donated prizes.
The next meeting will be held June 15. LaRosa gave the closing prayer.
Ron Retzer Trio to perform at Hill Top Presbyterian Church
TORONTO -- The Ron Retzer Trio will perform at Hill Top Presbyterian Church, 110 county Road 46, Toronto, on June 5, beginning at 5 p.m.
"We are very excited to host them and hope that the entire community comes out to hear their inspirational music," a church spokesperson noted.
There will be refreshments following the music. A love offering will be taken.
