Health fair happening Saturday
at Millsop Community Center
WEIRTON -- A "Health Fair for the Upper Ohio Valley" will be held at the Millsop Community Center in Weirton on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Multiple screenings will be offered at the event, the theme of which is "Better Informed, Better Health, Better Living."
The health fair sponsored by Morning Star Baptist Church of Weirton will offer individuals and families an opportunity to learn and experience Ohio Valley's many health-related resources and services, a spokesperson noted.
Toronto Sunrise Seniors
have busy holiday meeting
TORONTO -- The May 27 meeting of the Sunrise Seniors was called to order by President Barbara Pritts. Gloria Boley gave the opening prayer.
Following dinner, the group thanked kitchen committee members Bob and Mary Lou Deku, Marsha McConnell and Judy Sabol for their hard work.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Minutes from the mother and father dinner were read. Judy Sabol, treasurer, presented the financial report. The city and Mayor John Parker were thanked for the grant money supporting the activities of the seniors.
Social Secretary Marlene Garrett announced May birthdays and anniversaries. Three members were remembered under the health report. The June kitchen committee will be Sandi and Joe Radvansky, Debbie Luivisi, Sharen Peters and Janet Petrella.
The group was reminded of the trip to Midland, Pa., on June 26 to see "Carousel." Those with reservations should be at the Toronto High School stadium parking lot at 11:45 a.m.
The group voted to send a contribution to the Toronto Fourth of July Committee. Jerry Cornish was recognized as person of the month. Members participated in a Memorial Day trivia game, deciding afterward the need to improve their knowledge of this holiday.
Louie Nelson and Betty Mossor won the 50-50 drawing. Following adjournment, members played bingo. Laura Sheets called the numbers, and winners included Lucy Timko, Helen Vein, Frank Marino, Hank Sheets, Judy Sabol, Bob Deku, Don Pritts, Marlene Garrett and Marcella McKnight.
The next meeting is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. at the Karaffa Recreation Complex. Anyone 55 or older is invited to attend.
Attorney general seeking
students to serve on board
COLUMBUS -- Ohio Attorney Gen. Dave Yost has announced that his office is accepting applications for its Teen Ambassador Board.
The Attorney General's Teen Ambassador Board consists of upper-level high school students from public, private, charter and online schools in Ohio as well as students who are home-schooled.
The mission of the program is to provide Ohio's future leaders with an inside look at Ohio law and government.
"I have had the pleasure of getting to know some great future leaders through the Teen Ambassador Board," Yost said. "We hope this opportunity helps to attract young people into pursuing careers focused on protecting and serving Ohioans."
Board members advise the office on issues relating to teens and collaborate with their peers to develop solutions to those issues.
They serve a one-year term, during which they participate in activities throughout the state.
Ohio high school students who will be juniors or seniors during the 2022-23 academic year are eligible to apply for the Teen Ambassador Board.
Applications, which are due July 1, can be found on the Ohio Attorney General's website.
