Ohio Association of Colored Women's Clubs conference
set for Friday through Sunday
WEIRTON -- The Ohio Association of Colored Women's Clubs will be holding a three-day conference at the Holiday Inn, 350 Three Springs Drive, Weirton, beginning Friday.
The conference is being presented by Johnnie Mae Huston, Ohio state president; Rose Slaughter, district president; and Carol Ann Simmons, conference chairwoman.
Opening ceremonies will be held at 5 p.m. Friday with Steubenville Mayor Jerry Barilla and All Districts Night observed from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sharon Kirtdoll is the local chairwoman.
Saturday's activities begin with a memorial service at 7:30 a.m.; then guest speaker, the Rev. Buena Smith Dudley of Quinn Memorial AME Church, Steubenville, (tickets, $25) from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; the All Presidents Luncheon, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m., with Simmons as chairwoman and guest speaker Keitha Gregory Henderson (tickets, $35); and a legislative workshop led by state representative Maxine Robinson from 2:15 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The 6:30 p.m. banquet will feature keynote speaker Lory Renae Parks, president of the National Action Network, Detroit, Michigan Chapter, under the umbrella of the Rev. Al Sharpton. Simmons is chairwoman. Tickets are $50.
On Sunday, an OACWC youth breakfast will be held, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Tickets are $25.

A native of Detroit, Parks began her activist career while working as a nursing assistant at Medics Nursing Home in 1995. While working there, she started organizing within the nursing home as well as laying down the foundation to unionize Service Employees International.
Parks has been a part of the National Action Network for more than 20 years as a lifetime member with Sharpton. She serves as the vice president of the Michigan Chapter under the leadership of the Rev. Charles Williams II (under the umbrella of Sharpton, founder) who is the National Action Network midwest regional director. She also is the Detroit Midwest Region Coordinator of National Action Network.
She serves on the board of directors of the Detroit Association of Black Organizations and as liaison for the Grand Sheik of the Moorish Science Temple of America No. 25 under the leadership of Minister C. P. Fuqua-Bey, with whom she works closely on Operation Flip the Script.
Parks is a part of Urban Informational Network where she works with Timothy Moore, under whose leadership the Sisterhood Informational Network Talk Show was created and produced by Parks.
"She has worked across the country fighting for a living wage with SIEU as well as several other organizations," a news release notes about Parks, who is working as an outreach executive for the Oak Street Health Care Clinic on the East Side of Detroit.
After more than 30 years, Parks continues the fight for justice and will continue to speak out as an activist, the news release notes of Parks, who has four daughters, 13 grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Hygiene item giveaway
June 30 at Weirton church
WEIRTON -- Beth Younciak, outreach chairperson, and Cathie Yeager have announced that the hygiene giveaway at the First Christian Church, 3252 Main St., Weirton, will be conducted on June 30 from 11 a.m. to noon or until everything is given away.
The distribution is on a first-come, first-served basis. Items collected by church members include bath soap, shampoo, toilet paper, toothpaste and toothbrushes.
CCHS Class of 1972 making plans for 50-year reunion
STEUBENVILLE -- Members of the Steubenville Catholic Central High School Class of 1972 will celebrate their 50-year class reunion Sept. 24.
The event will take place at the Steubenville Country Club, beginning at 6 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Twice as Nice. Other activities in conjunction with the reunion are planned throughout the weekend.

Brooke County Senior Center
picnic scheduled for July 21
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Senior Center will hold its annual seniors picnic from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 21 at Brooke Hills Park's Cardinal Shelter.
The event will include food, craft and other vendors, bingo and music. Reservations are required by calling (304) 527-3410, extension 103.
Grump McAfee Memorial cruise-in on July 1 in Jewett
JEWETT -- The second-annual Grump McAfee Memorial cruise-in will be held July 1 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 308 E. Main St., Jewett.
