Evening of gospel music
Sunday at Richmond UMC
RICHMOND -- The Richmond Community Historical Society is hosting an evening of gospel music featuring George Kokos and the K Band of the First Baptist Church in Wellsburg.
It will be held Sunday from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Richmond United Methodist Church, 112 S. Sugar St., Richmond. A love offering will be taken.

Grace's Cupboard Food Pantry scheduled July 21 at church
STEUBENVILLE -- Grace's Cupboard Food Pantry will be held on July 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

FOLLANSBEE -- Bingo is held from noon to 3 p.m. each Wednesday and Friday at the Brooke County Senior Center and is among a variety of activities, including euchre and line dancing, held regularly there.

'Dog Days of Summer' event
to benefit humane society
WINTERSVILLE -- The Jefferson County Humane Society is holding its "Dog Days of Summer" fundraiser on July 23 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Aladdin Land in Bloomingdale.
The event, which is family and pet friendly, will feature food trucks, bourbon/wine tastings, a cash bar and live music by Ruff Creek, Pittsburgh's premier country band.
Tickets are $20 and are available at the Jefferson County Humane Society shelter at the airpark in Wintersville; at the humane society clinic at 81 Talbott Drive, Wintersville, and at Hauser Furniture at 3905 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville.
Children 12 and under are admitted free.

Jefferson County Veterans
Association picnic Saturday
SMITHFIELD -- The Jefferson County Veterans Association will hold its annual veterans picnic on Saturday from 2 pm. to 4 p.m. at Friendship Park in Smithfield in shelters one, two and three.
This year, the association will honor all first responders and invite all military veterans, active military and first responders and their families to attend.
The menu will include chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, desserts, watermelon, water and soda. The event will include camaraderie and an opportunity to explore the outdoor military museum and view the honor wall.
Tom Graham will sing the national anthem.
There will be a 60-40 drawing with 60 percent to the winner and the remainder to the Jefferson County Veterans Association. The drawing will be conducted at 3:30 p.m.
Auxiliary orders lap throws for veterans, approves donation
WEIRTON -- The Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary met July 11 with President Shirley Brecht opening the meeting.
Chaplain Mary Ann Smith led in prayer with Marcy Spano, secretary, acknowledging those who are ill. The Pledge of Allegiance followed.
After Spano conducted roll call, Brecht noted thanks to the Vietnam Veterans Combat Support Group Chapter No. 1 for it donation to the bakeless bake sale in June.
Spano read the minutes of the June meeting, and Brecht gave the treasurer's report. Both were approved.
The group voted to order 10 lap throws for the veterans at the Weirton Geriatric Center for Christmas and to make a donation to "CARE."
Edie Truax won the 50-50 drawing, donating it back to the treasury.
The club's next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Aug. 8 at the VFW hall in Weirton.
Story hour sessions planned
at Brooke, Follansbee libraries
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library will hold an Under the Sea story hour at 11 a.m. July 20 and its Follansbee branch will hold one at noon on Tuesday.
Kim Harless will lead children in songs and ocean-themed crafts for the program, which also will include snacks.

Food and craft vendors being sought for Brooke County Fair
WELLSBURG -- Food and craft vendors are sought for the Brooke County Fair, which will be held Sept. 16-18 at Brooke Hills Park.
Vendors may include school, church and other nonprofit entities as well as for profit ventures.
