Hollow Rock Campmeeting
has opening service Thursday
TORONTO -- Hollow Rock Campmeeting, the longest-running interdenominational holiness camp meeting in the United States, kicks off Thursday at the camp located at 1958 county Road 51, Toronto.
Established in 1818, Hollow Rock kicks off Thursday with the opening night praise and worship service at 7:30 p.m. and continues through July 31 with closing service at 10:30 a.m.
Throughout the 10 days of the camp, services are held each day at 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. There is a daily Bible study at 2:30 p.m. and "a strong ministry for children and youth," according to Kurt Landerholm, chairman of the board for the Hollow Rock Campmeeting.
In 2018 the camp celebrated its bicentennial.
"Gifted and nationally known speakers will share in the services," Landerholm noted. The Hollow Rock website lists 2022 speakers and teachers as being the Rev. John Juneman; the Rev. David Smith; the Rev. Mel Truex, Bible study; the Rev. Ryan Bash; the Rev. Stuart Smith; and the Rev. Caleb Friedeman, youth speaker.
There will be inspirational singing and special music. Hot meals are served three times a day in the cafeteria.
"Visit our historical building, mingle with old and new friends, stop by the bookstore and enjoy some solitude," Landerholm said.
For the first time in its more than 200-year history, there wasn't an on-site Hollow Rock Campmeeting in July 2020 in response to precautionary measures to contain the spread of COVID-19. In its place was a virtual alternative with live streaming videos from evangelists and other guests for adults, youth and children.
Mingo Knights of Columbus
to hold dinner on Thursday
MINGO JUNCTION -- The Mingo Knights of Columbus Council 4361 will be holding a dinner on Thursday at 6 p.m. as a way to express appreciation to specific groups of individuals, according to Shawn Zarych, grand knight
It is brother Knights and widows who sold or purchase charity drawing tickets during the spring, for council officers and for people who helped with the fish frys.

Donations of school items
being accepted in Toronto
TORONTO -- Misty Monroe Real Estate Team is collecting donations of backpacks, school supplies, and new and gently used clothes, shoes and accessories for all school-age children from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 25 at its office, located at 221 N. Fourth St., Toronto.
After donating items, people can receive tickets for drawings for baskets, coupons and other promotional items from their favorite shops in town.
Those who are unable to make it to the scheduled drop-off can call (740) 512-0892. "We're happy to pick up your donations," an announcement noted.
'Hot Dogs on the Lawn' set for July 27 at Zion United Church

Fundraiser dinner Saturday
will benefit mission trip
WINTERSVILLE -- A spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday at Wintersville Community Chapel, located at 27 N. Ward Drive, Wintersville.
The meal includes spaghetti, bread, salad, drink and dessert. The cost is $8 for an adult meal and $3.50 for a meal for a child age 8 and younger. Meatballs are 50 cents each. Patrons can eat in or get carryout.
Proceeds benefit a mission trip to Zambia, Africa.
Garage sale to benefit school, church, community projects
WEIRTON -- St. Joseph the Worker Christian Mothers' annual garage sale will be held on multiple days in the grade school gymnasium at 151 Michael Way, Weirton.
The dates are July 28 and 29 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and July 30 from 8 a.m. to noon. Donations of items toward the sale will be accepted only on July 25-27. Clothing and large electronic items such as TVs and computers cannot be accepted. Sale proceeds will benefit the school, church and community projects.
Wednesday 'chicken blasts'
continue through August
WEIRTON -- "Chicken blasts," a local tradition and fundraiser in place for decades, continues on Wednesdays through Aug. 31.
The Serbian Men's Club is holding these every Wednesday at the Serbian Picnic Grounds of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church. The picnic grounds are located on Kings Creek Road in Weirton.
Orders for the hearth-cooked, slow-roasted poultry may be called in from 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. to (304) 748-9866 the day of the sales. Orders must be picked up by 6 p.m. The price this year is $10.
2023 cemetery grant fund applications available
COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Department of Commerce's Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing has announced that the application period for the fiscal year 2023 Cemetery Grant Program is now open.
This grant cycle has $104,000 in funding available to help Ohio cemeteries with upkeep and operation costs. The Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing, which regulates cemeteries' proper maintenance and operation, started accepting applications this month.
"We are very excited about this program as we have been able to grant funds to these cemeteries, enabling them to begin and complete these projects," said Kirk Roberts, chair of the Ohio Cemetery Dispute Resolution Commission. "Ohio cemeteries are the keepers of our nation's heritage, and it is an honor to be able to assist in that noble effort. I would like to thank the division of real estate for all their work in facilitating the grant program."
Registered, nonprofit cemeteries may apply for the grant, which is funded by $1 of every $2.50 from the burial permit fees received by the division.
