Zion United to host 'Hot Dogs on the Lawn' Wednesday
STEUBENVILLE -- Zion United Church of Christ, located at 139 N. Fifth St., Steubenville, will be having its annual "Hot Dogs on the Lawn" event on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The menu includes hots dogs, macaroni salad and baked beans in addition to assorted desserts, including cherry pie, apple pie, Texas sheet cake and peanut butter sheet cake, and pop and bottled water. Cost is by free will offering.
It is open to the public. The church social hall with air conditioning will be open for eating indoors or carryout will be available.
Buckeye Back-to-School Bash being scheduled for Aug. 7
CONNORVILLE -- Buckeye Local School District will hold its Back-to-School Bash on Aug. 7 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the grounds of Buckeye Local High School.
"After a hiatus due to COVID and the pandemic we are excited and proud that we can hold this in person," noted a district spokesperson.
There will be free backpacks and cinch saks with supplies included for all Buckeye Local students who attend. Various vendors will be available with vision screening from Wal-Mart, free haircuts, music and more.
The Buckeye Local Band will begin the bash with the national anthem and will perform a brief presentation, beginning at 3 p.m.
The Ice Cream Island Truck will be available for ice cream and milkshakes to purchase. Local police, fire trucks and the Life Flight helicopter will have a presence.
Buckeye students return to the classroom on Aug. 24.
Brooke Hills Playhouse ready for children's production
WELLSBURG -- "Alice in Wonderland," Brooke Hills Playhouse's annual children's production, will be presented at 8 p.m. July 29 and 30 and Aug. 5 and 6 and at 2 p.m. July 31 and Aug. 7.
Area children will portray Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat and other well-known characters.
Admission is $12 for adults; $10 for seniors and students; and $8 for children.

participate in 'boat race'
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Library invites children to create their own "boats" using pool noodles and participate in a race there at noon July 29.

WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library's Recipe Club will meet at noon July 28 and share recipes using vegetables plucked from the garden.

Story hour July 27 includes tale of 'The Clumsy Crab'
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library will hold an Under the Sea story hour at 11 a.m. July 27 in its River Room.
There will be a story involving pirates, songs and ocean-themed crafts and snacks.
Kim Harless, the library's educational programs director, also will present a story hour, centered around "The Clumsy Crab," at 5 p.m. that day.
