Mary Zwierzchowski of Weirton, left, holds a copy of “Secrets in the Mist: The History of Brown’s Island, Weirton, WV” that she co-authored with Jane Kraina of Silver Springs, Md., formerly of Weirton. The book comes in the 50th anniversary year of the Brown’s Island coke plant explosion that happend on Dec. 15, 1972, and claimed the lives of 19 men. Seated next to her is Pam Makricosta.
