WEIRTON -- The works of 21 members of the Steubenville Art Association are featured as part of a special exhibit on display at the Summit Art Gallery, located at 3539 Main St., Weirton.
The gallery is managed by the Top of West Virginia Arts Council, which works under the umbrella of the Top of WV Convention and Visitors Bureau. New exhibitions open at the gallery every two months.
Top of WV CVB is an independent nonprofit organization governed by a volunteer board of directors.
The opening reception for the SAA-member exhibit was held July 7. The show continues through Aug. 27. Gallery hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Parking is available behind the building.
Bob Watson is event chair and coordinator for the WV Arts Council and a trustee of the SAA. He originated the event and appointed Gina Judy, also a member of the TWVAC, as show coordinator with the SAA. The two were part of the art hanging committee that included Judy Schmidt, SAA president, and member Paula Siebieda.
The 66-piece display features various two-dimensional media, including pencil, relief, pen-and-ink, oils, acrylics and watercolors, from SAA members

The SAA, a nonprofit organization of people interested in the advancement of fine art, began more than 70 years ago to provide local artists an opportunity to advance their creative skills. Workshops and demonstrations are provided to encourage artistic improvement with art shows displaying the visual arts and providing social engagement of the artists.
Membership consists of local artists expressing themselves through a wide variety of media. The SAA is supported by annual dues, commissions on sales from shows and outside contributions. It has made scholarship fund donations to local high school seniors graduating who are continuing their education in a four-year art program.
