New Cumberland Charge plans
homecoming celebration
picnic and service for Aug. 28
NEW CUMBERLAND -- Current members, families, friends and past members are encouraged to be a part of the New Cumberland Charge homecoming celebration picnic and worship service planned for Aug. 28.
The festivities organized by the New Cumberland Charge -- Point Pleasant United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church, both in New Cumberland -- will be held at Tomlinson Run State Park in New Manchester at shelter No. 4 by the swimming pool.
The morning will begin with an 11 a.m. combined worship service followed by a picnic; an old-fashioned hymn sing; games, including cornhole and volleyball; and a time of "sharing memories from the past history of both churches, which have been in existence for more than 100 years," a spokesperson noted. Attendees are welcome to not only share their memories but to bring old photos as well.
"We also are going to honor our past living pastors who will be in attendance," the spokesperson continued. "We want to encourage anyone who wants to attend to please do so, regardless of whether you are a member of the church. If you have ever driven by either church, feel free to come for good fellowship and some good food."
The charge will provide chicken and ham, rolls and sandwich buns, condiments, tableware and dinnerware, sheet cake for dessert, watermelon and beverages, including punch, coffee and bottled water. Electricity will be available.
Needed for the picnic are covered dishes to share with a promotional flier listing suggestions such as salads, vegetables, chips and dip, fruit, lasagna, rigatoni and scalloped potatoes.
Attendees should bring a lawn chair or bag chair and are asked to bring nonperishable items or canned goods that will be donated to the Food Closet.
