Four Seasons Seniors plan committee to recruit officers
WEIRTON -- The Four Seasons Seniors held their August meeting at Undo's with president Gene Viola presiding.
Chris Sklenar gave the opening prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and singing "God Bless America."
After dinner, committee reports were read. Next month a committee will be selected to find individuals interested in being an officer for the coming year.
A report was given regarding a sympathy card being sent.
Chinese auction winners were Jose Cekinovich, Gene Viola, Carol Irvine, Pat Beltrame and Sandy Corrigan. Janet Orler won the 50-50 drawing. Tom Maxwell won the Undo's gift certificate.
Other prize winners were Helen Vaine, Nancy Smurda, Barb Cerra and Stephana Iannetti.
Chris Sklenar gave the closing prayer.
The next meeting will be held Sept. 23.
Library holding story hours
on Monday and Wednesday
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library will hold story hours for children ages 2-5, and their caregivers, at noon each Monday at its Follansbee branch and at 11 a.m. each Wednesday at its Wellsburg location.

Church plans Kid Crash
kickoff event for Sept. 10
WEIRTON -- Evangel Baptist Church, located at 204 Colliers Way, Weirton, is preparing to kick off Kid Crashers, a time of games, chats and snacks.
The kickoff is Sept. 10 from noon to 2 p.m. and will include hot dogs, snacks, drinks, live music and a guantlet obstacle course.
It is free to the pubic and fun for all ages, according to a promotional flier.

After the kickoff, Kid Crashers will be held every Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon.
Richmond Lions Club having fundraiser scramble Sept. 11
RICHMOND -- The Richmond Lions Club will be holding its ninth-annual fundraiser scramble on Sept. 11 at Spring Hills Golf Course in East Springfield with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
The cost is $75 per person and includes 18 holes with a cart, continental breakfast, snacks at the turn, dinner and drinks. Prizes are $500, first place; $400, second place' and $300, third place. A skins game, drawings and a 50-50 will be part of the event.
Players and sponsors continue to be recruited. Checks can be made payable to Richmond Lions Club and mailed to Aaron Richardson at 1566 County Road 41, Richmond OH 43944.

Weirton Woman's Club plans luncheon, style show Sept. 11
WEIRTON -- The Weirton Woman's Club, a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs of West Virginia, will be sponsoring a fundraiser luncheon and style show on Sept. 11 at Undo's in Weirton.
The doors will open at noon for early shopping, and lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m. The festivities will include vendors, a basket drawing and a 50-50 drawing and a special drawing of donated gift items from local merchants and club members.
The "Parade of Fashions" style show will feature outfits from Cato modeled by club members. The Cato clothing store is located at the Fort Steuben Mall in Steubenville.
Tickets for the luncheon and show are $30 and must be purchased in advance. There will be no ticket sales at the door. Community festival Saturday
at East Springfield church
EAST SPRINGFIELD -- The grounds of the East Springfield Church of the Cross at 7712 state Route 43, East Springfield, will be the site of a community festival unfolding on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Free fun for children will include free inflatables from Movin' and Groovin', free water bottles for the first 100 children and an opportunity to win a new backpack.
Local vendors, crafters and organizations will have a variety of items for sale, and everyone is welcome.
Family friendly vendors are welcome to be a part of the community festival but are asked to call the church at (740) 543-3282 to make arrangements.
Chicken dinners will be sold by the East Springfield Volunteer Fire Department from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Blues and jazz music will be provided by Measly Peace from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Place your orders for final 'chicken blast' on Wednesday
WEIRTON -- The final "chicken blast" for 2022 will be held Wednesday.
The longtime fundraiser is organized by the Serbian Men's Club and is held at the Serbian Picnic Grounds of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church.
The picnic grounds are located on Kings Creek Road in Weirton.
Orders for the hearth-cooked, slow-roasted poultry may be called in from 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. to (304) 748-9866 the day of the sales. Orders must be picked up by 6 p.m. The price is $10.
Valley Hospice announces
Memorial Butterfly releases
RAYLAND -- Valley Hospice will host two "uplifting evenings dedicated to remembering and celebrating the lives of loved ones who are no longer with us."
The 18th-annual Valley Hospice Memorial Butterfly releases will be held Sept. 20 at the Oglebay Park Anne Kuchinka Amphitheater, Wheeling, and on Sept. 22 at the Fort Steuben Park Berkman Amphitheater in Steubenville. Both releases will begin at 6 p.m.
"Our butterfly memorials provide a unique opportunity to cherish memories of our loved ones as we combine music and thoughtful recitations," said Cynthia Bougher, Valley Hospice CEO.
"The release of the live butterflies is a therapeutic experience that can provide comfort to those suffering from loss."
The event is open to anyone in the community who has lost a loved one. Butterflies are $7 each. The deadline to place orders is Sept. 6. There is no rain date for these events. If rain prohibits the program, butterflies can be picked up drive-through style at the event location.
