Weirton native is named to
Fairmont Homecoming court
FAIRMONT -- A native of Weirton and 2019 graduate of Weir High is among 10 candidates named to Fairmont State University's 2022 homecoming court.
Neveah Colliers is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Black Student Union, Model United Nations, National Society of Leadership and Success and the National Security and Intelligence Student Association. She is a senior, majoring in political science, national security and intelligence and Spanish.
Some of her hobbies are painting, drawing, hiking, camping and baking. Colliers will be escorted by Trey Jones.
Other members of the homecoming court are Rosemary Velazquez of Mannington, W.Va.; Isaac Leech of Wheeling; Madelyn Moore of Millsboro, Del.; Eli Dozer of Clarksburg; Peyton Barnes of Waldorf, Md.; Caomi Fitz of Fairmont; Joel Phelps from Martinsburg; Asia-Lynn Cooper from Clendenin, W.Va.; and Colton Daft from Farmington, W.Va.
"This is an exceptional group of students," said Fairmont State University Assistant Director of Student Life Justin Rader. "These student leaders are fantastic representatives of Fairmont State University, and we are so excited to have them on this year's court. We're looking forward to celebrating each of them during our Homecoming events."
Homecoming royalty will be crowned on Saturday at halftime during the football game against UNC Pembroke at Duvall Rosier Field.
Yard and bake sale Saturday
at New Cumberland church
NEW CUMBERLAND -- New Cumberland First Presbyterian Church, located at 200 S. Court St., New Cumberland, is holding a yard sale and sale of homemade baked goods on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.
Weirton Senior Center plans sales, 'Fall Harvest' event
WEIRTON -- The Greater Weirton Senior Center, located at 3425 Main St., Weirton, will be holding a book sale, bake sale and rummage sale on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Also on the calendar for the center is a "Fall Harvest Membership Drive" scheduled for Oct. 1 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., according to Tammy Margetic, the center's director.
"We will be having food, live music and many great prizes to win," Margetic said, citing one example as being a $100 gift card to Wal-Mart and one to Kroger's in addition Visa gift cards and other items.
The center is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Anyone 50 or older is welcome to visit our senior center.
"You can come five times to see if you like the center, and after that, you can join." Annual fees are $25 per person or $40 for a couple.
