St. Agnes Church’s CWC

taking pumpkin roll orders

MINGO JUNCTION — The Catholic Woman’s Club of St. Agnes Church at 204 St. Clair Ave., Mingo Junction, is in the midst of taking orders for its annual pumpkin roll fundraiser.

The last day to place an order is Oct. 19, which can be done by calling St. Agnes Hall at (740) 535-0098 Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon or 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Theresa Madden at (740) 346-5424; or Barb Crugnale at (740) 535-0174.

The cost is $13 for a pumpkin roll. A gluten-free pumpkin roll is $16.

Pick-up will be at the church hall on Monday through Thursday through Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to noon and 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The last day to pick up an order is Oct. 27, only from 9 a.m. to noon.

Patrons are asked to pick up their order within two days of ordering.

Rotary Club of Weirton makes

plans for Oct. 9 fall fundraiser

WEIRTON — The Rotary Club of Weirton will hold its fall festival and NFL tailgate fundraiser on Oct. 9 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Get Togethers Picnic Grounds, located at 3934 Kings Creek Road, Weirton.

There will be a butterfly tent by Butterflies from Heather with a butterfly release at 4 p.m.

Vendors, food trucks, a 50-50 drawing, a Chinese auction, a farmers market and music by DJ Carter are part of the fundraiser that also includes a kids costume contest where prizes will be awarded for the scariest, cutest and most creative costumes.

The contest will involve two age groups — ages 1-6 and 6-12 — with registration conducted from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. and the contest getting under way at 2 p.m.

Proceeds from the fundraiser help with various Rotary projects, including scholarships, the Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, Shop with a Cop, Feeds for Success and other charities, according to Vanessa Beaver, president of the Rotary Club of Weirton

Festival in the Woods set for Saturday at Richmond Park

RICHMOND — More than 70 vendors will be offering a variety of wares when Festival in the Woods unfolds for its annuall fall fundraiser Saturday at Richmond Park, located at 210 S. Park St., Richmond.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with parking available throughout Richmond, most of it near the Richmond United Methodist Church.

There will be pulled pork sandwiches and hot dogs available in addition to “regular or spiked apple cider (spiked with caramel vodka) and fall beers,” a committee spokesperson noted, reminding that patrons bring their IDs.

Festival in the Woods is an 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to improving their community for the present and future.

Hancock County Farm Bureau

annual dinner is Tuesday

NEW MANCHESTER — The Hancock County Farm Bureau will hold its annual dinner on Tuesday at the New Manchester Fire Hall, beginning at 6 p.m.

Attendees are asked to bring their favorite dessert or snack chips (potato, nacho, tortillas, etc.) and dip.

The Farm Bureau will provide sandwich sliders and beverages. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Cookies and Cocoa with Santa is Oct. 7 at Follansbee Park

FOLLANSBEE — The fourth-annual Cookies and Cocoa with Santa will be held Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Steel Shelter at Follansbee Park.

The Steel Shelter is located near the restrooms.

Admission is $5 per child, and all proceeds benefit Follansbee Christmas in the Park charities.

Activities include “Twas the Night Before Christmas” story with Santa, cookies, cocoa, a craft and a game.

Children are invited to wear their pajamas, and each child will receive a special gift from Santa.

Sugar Grove UMC yard sale,

crafts at Oct. 8 fundraiser

TORONTO — Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, located at 159 county Road 68, Toronto, is planning a yard sale, craft tables and bake sale for Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church basement.

Brooke County Library to hold

story hour and walk on Oct. 6

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will hold an evening story hour, based on Dulia Donaldson’s “Room on the Broom,” at 5 p.m. Oct. 6.

The story also is the center of a story walk to be found outside the library in October. Visitors to the walk may follow various instructions as they read the story.

The walk is patterned on the Story Walk Project created by Anne Ferguson in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle and Pedestrian Coalition and Kellogg Hubbard Library.

library plan cemetery tour

CADIZ — The Harrison County Historical Society and the Puskarich Public Library will present the annual cemetery tour at the Germano Cemetery on Oct. 12, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

“Take a leisurely stroll through the cemetery and travel back in time as tour guide Dr. Scott Pendleton introduces you to some permanent residents and shares a little history on them,” notes a promotional announcement in the library’s newsletter.

“This is fun for the whole family. You don’t want to be left in the dark about Harrison County history so bring a flashlight and meet us at the cemetery located at Germano-Carrollton Road/Rumley Road East, Germano, Harrison County.”

Newview CEOS changing

meeting day to Wednesday

NEW CUMBERLAND — The Newview Community Educational Outreach Service Club, which until now has met on the first Thursday of each month, has changed its meeting time to 11 a.m. on the first Wednesday of the month.

The next meeting will be on Oct. 5 at the Hancock County Senior Center on Gas Valley Road.

The lesson, presented by Wendy Backus, will be “Haunting History,” a look at some asylums in West Virginia.

The senior center has resumed its luncheons, priced at $6 for anyone interested. The menu for this month’s meeting is chef’s salad and soup.

Anyone wanting to contribute to the All Stars’ apple butter cook should bring canning jar lids and rings to this meeting. Donations of new canning jars — pints and quarts — would be welcomed.

“The Newview CEOS is happy to be able, once again, to invite the public to join us,” a spokesperson noted. While the meeting and lesson are free but, having lunch with the club means the normal senior center fee will apply.
