A double show at Historic Fort Steuben, 120 S. Third St., Steubenville, constitutes the September and October offerings of the Steubenville Art Association through the works of Alan Fitzpatrick and Cecy Rose. Their paintings are available for viewing during the fort's regular hours of operation, which are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fitzgerald took up oil painting after retiring from a carpet business he operated with his brother and having worked as a counselor of inmates at the W.Va. State Penitentiary. He considers himself a self-taught oil painter with his favorite subjects being portraiture and landscapes. He has exhibited at SAA juried exhibits in Steubenville, Etc. Gallery in Wheeling and Artworks Around Town in Wheeling. He had a solo show at the Artisan Center in Wheeling and had been accepted to several Cross Currents Jurided Exhibits at the Stifel Fine Arts Center. He has authored six books that focus on the history of the Ohio country during the 18th Century. A resident of Wheeling, Rose graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a master's degree in painting. She worked as a drawing instructor at a small art school in Pittsburgh in 1977, then became head of the graphic arts department at West Virginia Northern Community College where she taught painting, drawing and printmaking classes. She also was an instructor at the Stifel Fine Arts Center in Wheeling. She recently retired from a longtime career of teaching private lessons but continues to offer life-drawing sessions through Zoom. Rose has exhibited her works at regional juried exhibitions and has been shown in various solo and group exhibits. For a portfolio of her work, visit www.cecyrose.com.
