Cloak and Dagger marks Halloween with ‘Tales from Inner Sanctum’

WEIRTON -- Cloak & Dagger On the Air returns to the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau on Saturday at 7 p.m. with live stage performances perfect for Halloween, organizers say.

Admission is free, although donations are appreciated. Doors open at 6:15 p.m., when R.J. Gaudio, troubadour, will perform an opening set of classic pop, folk and rock songs. Light, Halloween-themed refreshments will be available.

This month's performance, Cloak and Dagger On the Air presents "Tales from the Inner Sanctum," will include three chilling dramas.

The first, "The Horla," is an adaptation of the 1887 short horror story by Guy de Maupassant that inspired generations of horror writers, including H.P. Lovecraft. In the story, a man of some status struggles to retain his sanity as his mind and body are overtaken by a supernatural being of which only he is aware.

In the second tale, "The Voice on the Wire," a woman is haunted by phone calls from a mysterious man who warns her she only has four hours to live. He punctuates each call with chords from her late pianist husband's final composition, even as the howls of a dog fill the air around her secluded cabin.

The third adaptation, "Death of a Doll," asks whether the devil can inhabit a doll that once belonged to a dead girl? And is this question open-ended or rhetorical?

The night will include an original skit, titled "The Walking Jinxed," written by Cloak and Dagger Artistic Director Pete Fernbaugh and a Cloak and Dagger "tribute" to television's most drawn-out serial, "The Walking Dead." A bastion of bad luck, Jake the Jinx, wakes up from his afternoon siesta only to discover that he has slept through three years' worth of afternoons, and the world around him has become a desolate wasteland. What happened? Apparently, Jake happened. And the fingers of those who survive are pointed directly at him.

This month's cast will include Rob DeSantis, Fernbaugh, Noah Hilton, Nancy Longo, Karissa Martin, Ralph Parissi and Savannah Schroll Guz.

Top of WV CVB is located at 3539 Main St., Weirton. Ample parking is available behind the building, where there also is an entrance. Individuals with mobility impairments may more easily enter through the building's front entrance.

Cloak and Dagger On the Air is a monthly theatrical series from the Ohio Valley Cloak and Dagger Co. that celebrates audio drama from all eras, particularly the fabled Golden Age of Radio. By re-imagining classic radio dramas and literary works, along with presenting original stories written and produced by independent writer and actor Pete Fernbaugh, Cloak and Dagger On the Air strives to give audiences an immersive experience that engages the theatre of their imagination in creating a fully realized storytelling adventure.

The Cloak and Dagger On the Air podcast completes the experience by presenting these stories in the way they were meant to be seen: by the mind's eye.
