Families and Friends
of Quinn Day is Sunday
STEUBENVILLE -- Quinn Memorial AME Church, located at 515 North St., Steubenville, will be observing Families and Friends of Quinn Day on Sunday, beginning with the 11 a.m. time of worship followed by "a delicious repast."
The public is invited "to celebrate the goodness of the Lord with us," notes a news release from the Family and Friends of Quinn Day Committee chaired by Eloise Curenton and the Quinn Bicentennial Anniversary Committee.

"We are working intently on a grand weekend of fun, worship, and remembrance July 14-16, 2023."
Donations may be sent to Quinn Memorial AME Church, 515 North St., Steubenville OH 43952.

MINGO JUNCTION -- Elementary students and their families can spend time together and have fun reading during the annual fall literacy night at Hills Elementary in Mingo Junction.
Hills and Cross Creek Elementary schools are combining efforts for a joint event on Oct. 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The "Fall into a Book" fete is being organized by Hills teachers Virginia Pawelczyk and A.J. Renner, and teachers from both schools will have stations with educational activities as well as snacks, plus Indian Creek Middle School science teacher Michael Minor will be launching pumpkins for some fun viewing.
"It's an all-around good time," said Pawelczyk. "Kids can go to different classrooms and make Play-Doh monsters and write stories. It's a nice way to get families into the school and do fun activities with their child."
Hills and CCE generally conduct joint literacy nights in the fall and winter with separate festivities at their respective buildings in the spring. Pawelczyk said it also helps make education "a really pleasurable experience."
"It's trying to get parents to realize that learning doesn't have to be a paper-and-pencil concept. It can be fun," she said.
