Altar and Rosary Society

to host monthly food sale

WELLSBURG -- The Altar and Rosary Society of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, located at 1300 Charles St., Wellsburg, will hold its monthly soup, sandwich and dessert sale on Wednesday in the church hall.

A variety of four soup and four sandwiches will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until sold out.

Sarris candy bars will be available for $2 each as part of the yearly fundraiser.

Patrons can dine in or get takeout. Dine-in or take out available. For phone orders, call Sue at (304) 281-1239.

WEIRTON -- The Weir High Class of 1967 is having a luncheon on Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. at Nana's, located at 390 American Way, Weirton.

All classmates and spouses are welcome to attend.

Brooke High Dance Team to hold quarter auction Oct. 23

FOLLANSBEE -- The Brooke High School Dance Team will hold a quarter auction to benefit the Brooke County Senior Center Oct. 23 at the Brooke High School cafeteria.

Doors will open at 12:30 p.m., with the auction to start at 1:30 p.m. Admission is $5, which includes one paddle. Additional paddles may be purchased.

There will be a variety of items up for bid and food for sale.

Senior fitness classes being

offered at Brooke Library

WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library is offering Geri-Fit, a 45-minute strength training class for older adults.

Participants start lifting light weights, usually while seated and can work at their own pace. They should bring a set of light dumbbells, a stretch band and water to drink.

The video fitness classes are held from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the Follansbee Library, 844 Main St., and from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays at the Brooke County Library, 945 Main St. Those interested in participating in the free classes should register by calling (304) 737-1551 ext. 106.

Story hours held every Monday at Follansbee Branch Library

FOLLANSBEE -- Story hours for children, ages 2-5, and their caregivers will be held at noon each Monday at the Follansbee Branch Library.

Each includes a craft, games and a snack.

Bloomingdale/Unionport Fall Fest set for Saturday, Sunday

BLOOMINGDALE -- The second-annual Bloomingdale/Unionport Fall Fest will be held during a two-day period this weekend with more than 70 vendors participating and other activities available.

It will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Aladdin Land, 6355 township Road 166, Bloomingdale.

The festivities will include local crafters and vendors, music, food, a duck race, Boy Scout bean soup, a car show on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Doc Roe and the Harmonies performing on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Off-site parking will be available at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School with shuttle service available.

This year, proceeds are benefiting Unionport Christian Church and a local scholarship.

A supervised children's play area will be available at a cost of $10 per child and $5 for each additional child from the same family. It offers unlimited crafts, games, face painting and play.

Buena Vista UMC to host

indoor garage sale Nov. 5

STEUBENVILLE -- Buena Vista United Methodist Church, located at Kingston and Schenley avenues, Steubenville, will be hosting an indoor yard sale on Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The sale will include soup, sandwiches and baked goods, arts and crafts and more.

Hancock County Democratic Women plan 'Meet and Greet'

WEIRTON -- Members of the Hancock County Democratic Women held their monthly meeting on Sept. 20 at Aloha Delights, located at Three Springs Drive, Weirton with President Teresa McCombs calling the meeting to order, welcoming those in attendance and leading in the Pledge Of Allegiance.

Silent attendance was taken.

No minutes from the previous meeting were available. The treasurer's report was read and will be filed for audit.

No committee chairmen reports were given.

The "Meet and Greet" hosted by Women Of Steel, Hancock County Democratic Executive Committee and Hancock County Democratic Women on Labor Day, Sept. 5, at the Independent Steelworkers Union Hall, Weirton, was discussed.

Plans were finalized for the Meet and Greet Your Democratic Candidates event scheduled for Saturday, beginning at 2:30 p.m. It will be held at the Follansbee Community House (next to the pool) at Follansbee Municipal Park, Main Street, Follansbee. It will be hosted by the Hancock County Democratic Executive Committee and Hancock County Democratic Women along with the Brooke County Democratic Executive Committee and Brooke County Democratic Women.

It is open to the public and all Hancock and Brooke County registered Democratic voters are invited to attend.

The afternoon will include refreshments, prizes, food, a 50/50 drawing and an opportunity to meet the candidates before the Nov. 8 General Election.

The next meeting will be held on Oct. 17 at Aloha Delights, Three Springs Drive, (old Wal-Mart Plaza), Weirton, at 5 p.m. for those who desire to eat. The business meeting begins at 6 p.m.

The Hancock County Democratic Women welcomes new members. All Hancock County Democratic Women are invited to join the group and support our cause. Dues are $10.00 per person for the year and are due when you join.

St. Vincent de Paul to hold

registration for holiday help

WINTERSVILLE -- St. Vincent De Paul will hold general registration for Thanksgiving and Christmas on Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Registration will be conducted at the St. Vincent Pantry located behind Blessed Sacrament Church, 852 Main St., Wintersville, and is open to residents of Wintersville and Bloomingdale.

The following information is required to register: Photo ID; proof of residency; proof of income for all adults in the household; food stamps; and medical cards for all children claimed.

The ministry will provide Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas dinner and Christmas gifts for children. For information, call (740) 264-9547.

St. Vincent De Paul is a ministry of Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Lourdes churches and has been in continuous operation for more than 50 years. The ministry offers a monthly food pantry, distributions for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas and other special assistance throughout the year.
