Trunk-or-treat set for Oct. 27

at Buckeye Local High School

CONNORVILLE — Buckeye Local High School is playing host to a Halloween event that will “delight kids and families alike.”

Yorkville resident Janell Gill is organizing a trunk-or-treat activity in the high school parking lot on Oct. 27 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. that will feature community members and groups offering sweet treats and activities. Gill previously organized similar festivities at the Warren Township Community Park and said BLHS leaders were very supportive of the upcoming event.

“I had asked to use the practice field and parking lot, and Principal Luke Parsons jumped right on it,” she said.

Entry is free and it is open to the public, offering food, games and fun, according to Gill, who said area 4-H and Girl Scouts will be on hand with a concession stand fundraiser while DeFelice Pizza of Martins Ferry will provide food and have a car on hand. Local businessman Mark Doughty will offer a hayride and the BLHS Student Council/freshman class will have games and candy. Home economics students will make sweets for the Cupcake Walk, and cheerleaders also will participate. A costume contest will be held for age groups 0-4, 5-9, 10-13 and 14-18 with gift cards being awarded as prizes, and there will be more to do with pumpkin carving and decorating contests also on tap.

“This is our second year,” Gill added. “Last year, we had it at the park, and there were 40 cars and tables, and within the first hour there were more than 100 kids.”

Gill, a Buckeye Local alumna, said she wanted to do something for the community and was grateful for the support the trunk-or-treat has received.

“I wanted to do something and am grateful to the Buckeye Local staff for letting me do it.”

Individuals or organizations interested in participating with their car or a table have until the day of the event to respond. Participants will set up after school.

For information, contact Gill at (740) 424-6429 or on the Facebook event page.
