NEW CUMBERLAND -- The Alpha Tau Chapter (WV) of Alpha Delta Kappa, International Honorary Organization for Women Educators, held its October meeting at the Swaney Memorial Library in New Cumberland.
The session was called to order by President Amy Hannahs. The "Thought for the Day," given by Chaplain Kathy Griffith, was a reading from "Walking in Grace."
Roll call was taken and minutes were distributed. Treasurer Angela Cunningham presented the budget for approval. Altruistic Chairman Cara McMahan reported on upcoming projects which include the Gabriel House, a clothing distribution for elementary schools and donations to the Weirton Medical Center Breast Care Center and state altruistic project Camp Kno Koma. Fran Jones, ways and means chairman, gave an update on the scholarship fundraiser.
Susan Gracie and Rita Schmitt presented a Founder's Day program which honored the four creators of the organization. The group celebrated the 45th anniversary of the chapter, which was founded on Oct. 9, 1977. Charter member Diana Yocina was recognized and a reading of "What Is A Teacher" was given by Tammy Fields.
The group celebrated Alpha Delta Kappa Month by delivering cookies in appreciation to the staffs of the schools in Hancock County.
In other business, Hannahs provided a list for the Teacher Buddies encouragement program which pairs a retired teacher with an active teacher.
Hostesses for the meeting were Michelle Bernardi and Michelle McHaffie. The November meeting will be held at the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center.
