Holiday senior giving tree needs help from the public
STEUBENVILLE -- A holiday senior giving tree is an outreach the Jefferson County Adult Protective Services hopes to make a reality with the public's help.
"For many seniors the holiday season can be difficult, especially if they have no one," commented Marie Holt of Jefferson County Jobs and Family Services, Adult Protective Services. "Jefferson County Adult Protective Services is looking for submissions of seniors who are 60 and older living independently in Jefferson County who can benefit from some holiday cheer," Holt explained, directing those interested in helping with this to call Adult Protective Services at (740) 282-0961 to add the name of a senior to the giving tree by Nov. 30.
"When you call, we will need to know the name of the senior, their address, a few items they need and any interests they may have," Holt noted. "That senior will then be given a number on an angel. When an angel is picked, it will say if the senior is male or female and will have a list of needs and interests. Once the angel is returned, the number will be matched with the senior and delivered in time for Christmas," Holt said.
The giving trees will be located at Prime Time, Job and Family Services and the Fort Steuben Mall.
Gifts will need to be wrapped and turned in to the Jefferson County Department of Jobs and Family Services at 125 S. Fifth St., Steubenville, along with the tag selected by Dec. 19. Questions can be directed to (740) 282-0961.
