STEUBENVILLE -- A project about three years in the making has come to fruition for local artist Dave Barnhouse, whose collaboration with Nelson Fine Art and Gifts in Steubenville has resulted in the release of "The Art of Dave Barnhouse."
The book features more than 100 of Barnhouse's paintings along with descriptions offering insight into the inspiration behind them.
Barnhouse is following up a kick-off book-signing held Dec. 9 at Leonardo's Coffeehouse in downtown Steubenville during Nutcracker Village festivities with one planned for Saturday at the Fort Steuben Mall from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
He will be stationed in front of the Ville Restaurant.
Copies of the book will be available for $60 and for signing by Barnhouse, who noted it will be an opportunity to "learn how a country boy from Richmond, Ohio, became a nationally known artist."
The book comes on the heels of 28 years of painting that continues with other projects in mind for the local man who has painted nostalgic scenes from his hometown as well as from throughout the area.
His works have earned him many awards and honors, including having been voted "America's third most popular print artist" during the 1990s.
Barnhouse was following in his father's footsteps as a local steelworker when art beckoned. He went from being a "two-week winter painter," steelworker and singer in gospel groups to full-time artist, taking early retirement from his mill work to launch what was then a new career for him.
Rural life and small town-USA is what Barnhouse has embraced as subject matter and although he has painted for companies such as John Deere and Harley-Davidson, he noted he will "always be a country boy at heart" and has no desire to leave his hometown area.
