OVBPW wraps up 2022 meetings with holiday party, Nike Club career night

STEUBENVILLE -- Members of the Ohio Valley Business and Professional Women's Club have wrapped up their 2022 meetings with a Christmas party held Friday evening and a Nov. 15 session held at Steubenville High School where members of the Nike Club and their adviser, Katrina Morrow, gathered for a meal and a time devoted to sharing about career insight and advice.
The Nike Club is an extension of the OVBPW, which it mentors.
"Our mission is community and building relationships to help the girls build relationships with one another and to get exposure to professional women and to pick their brains and take any insight that these ladies have about being a professional woman, and just using all of that to help them become better young ladies," explained Morrow, who is in her eighth year as adviser.
So far the club held a fall blood drive, collecting 27 units, and collected socks for Urban Mission Ministries, which it also was aiding during Christmas outreach efforts. The organization has about 30 students
Amelia Taggart, vice president of the OVBPW and vice president of the Ohio BPW Region 3, led the meeting on behalf of club President Julie Decker, explaining that the annual get-together is an opportunity for what she identified as Career Nigh Shadow Day.
"We go through the club members, and we talk about the different careers and pathways that we took to get where we are," Taggart said. "And we explain to the Nike students how they can get on those career pathways and then we invite them to shadow us for a day and discuss our careers and the steps that we took to get there."
The OVBPW already is setting its sights on its yearly fundraiser -- the 17th-annual Wine and Shoe Extravaganza. The highlight of the evening is the announcement of the Woman of the Year.
