'A Night on Broadway' Saturday as Steubenville High School hosts cabaret
STEUBENVILLE -- Big Red will transform into the Great White Way for a night as Steubenville High School hosts its annual cabaret on Saturday.
"A Night on Broadway -- Duos, Trios and Groups -- OH MY!" is set for 7 p.m. in the school auditorium with tickets for $12 in advance and $15 at the door. The audience can enjoy the show as 35 students warble, dance and perform skits reminiscent of the New York stage.
Music and drama teacher Scott Wolodkin said high school Thespians, Drama Club and choir members in grades 10 through 12 will be featured throughout the evening.
"The cabaret is student-directed and rehearsed with guidance from myself," Wolodkin said. "The troupe has a student choreographer and scriptwriter, usually from the officers of the organization. They schedule and organize all rehearsals and plan outfits for the evening."
He said the students choose the theme each year, and the cabaret has been well-attended. The performances began in 2008 and have been a yearly tradition since 2012. Wolodkin, who serves as the troupe adviser, added that it also is a fundraiser that benefits the Thespian's planned trip to New York in April.
"All proceeds will go toward the trip which allows our advanced theater members the opportunity to visit the New York theater. The students will be going to a workshop with a member of the 'Hamilton' cast as well as four Broadway shows, Radio City Music Hall and several other New York landmarks," he added.

'Dragon Dance' story hour in time for Chinese New Year

Toronto Sunrise Seniors have first meeting of new year
TORONTO -- The Toronto Sunrise Seniors met at the Karaffa Recreation Center on Jan. 13. President Barbara Pritts called the meeting to order and welcomed members to the meeting room decorated to a snowman theme.
Vice President Sandi Radvansky gave the blessing for the meal. Following dinner, the kitchen committee of Nancy Bodrog, Paul Sherwood and Louie Nelson were thanked for their efforts in preparing the main dishes and in decorating the hall.
Members then recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and Secretary Laura Sheets conducted the roll call of officers and read the minutes of the previous meeting.
Radvansky recognized members with January birthdays and anniversaries.
TEMS was recognized for its prompt response to help a member who had fallen in the parking lot just as the meeting started.
Pritts distributed kitchen committee assignment lists and membership lists. The group voted to approve the revisions to the constitution and by-laws that had first been presented at the November meeting. They also agreed to share the cost of a cart with the other Toronto Senior Citizens group. The cart will be used to transport supplies in the kitchen.
A travel opportunity was presented to the group for Sept. 10-14. The trip is five days and four nights to the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. It includes lodging, eight meals, four shows and admission to Dollywood and the Titanic Museum as well as other benefits. Radvansky was recognized as member of the month. She talked about her unusual hobby of geo-caching which involves using a phone app to locate hidden treasures placed in unusual places by others.
Don Pritts sold 50-50 tickets, and the winners for the evening were Joyce Gribben and Marsha McConnell.
After the meeting, members played bingo. Winners for the evening included Nancy Bodrog, Hank Sheets, Lucy Timko, Dorothy Pavelka, Frank Marino and Darlene Naukam.
Steubenville High School Alumni Association to meet
