STEUBENVILLE -- It's enrollment time for area youth interested in being a part of Jefferson County's 4-H program.
"January to April is the time to sign up for 4-H," explained Leslie Aftanas, OSU Extension program assistant, and those interested can call the OSU Exension office at (740) 264-2212 for information or to do so.
The Extension office is located in the Jefferson County Tower building, Suite 512, 500 Market St., Steubenville.
"4-H is more than just animals -- there are lots of other learning opportunities," Aftanas said of the more than 200 projects available.
"Kids can learn about sewing, laundry, cooking, photography, S.T.E.M. and so much more," Aftanas explained. "Kids also can get leadership, communication and community service skills."
In addition, there are many camps available.
Aftanas will be out in the community promoting what the 4-H program has to offer and recruiting participants during a series of presentations at the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County.
On Monday she'll be at the Main Library from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.; the Schiappa Branch from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; and the Toronto Branch from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
On Jan. 23, Aftanas will be at the Brilliant Branch from 11 a.m. to noon; at Tiltonsville from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.; at the Dillonvale-Mount Pleasant Branch from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.; and at the Adena Branch from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
She will have books to look though, applications and the different clubs available to youth to join.
