Valentine's Day celebration
is Saturday at Quinn AME
STEUBENVILLE -- Quinn Memorial AME Church, located at 515 North St., Steubenville, will be hosting a Valentine's Day celebration on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
It will be a time of "worship, food, fellowship and fun" for a $25 donation with tribute and a booklet or $20 for a ticket only. Tickets will be available at the door. For information, call (304) 479-7540.
The program includes Bishop Errenous E. McCloud, presiding prelate Third Episcopal district; the Rev. Bettye Holley, presiding elder; Patricia Russell McCloud, Episcopal supervisor; and the Rev. Buena Smith Dudley, pastor.
'I Dream A World' concert
scheduled for Feb. 24 by Edison High School Choir
RICHMOND -- The Edison High School Choir will feature past and present performers during its "I Dream A World" international music concert on Feb. 24.
The free event will be held in the auditorium at 6 p.m. and EHS Vocal Music Director Greg Hofmeister said 150 students in the grade 7-12 ensembles and about 15-25 Edison Alumni Choir members will take the stage.
Other offerings include a drawing and 50-50 drawing while donations will be accepted.
The vocal ensembles will perform more than 20 selections representing 15 countries and 12 languages, then the alumni singers will join in for performances of "Elijah Rock," "Ave Venum," "Baba Yetu," "Locus iste," "I Believe" and "Old Irish Blessing."
"The concept was to provide cultural enrichment for Edison students," Hofmeister explained. "Many students are without global understanding, and this music and research projects enhance students' cultural awareness and appreciation for music from different countries," he said.
"Providing an opportunity for alumni to sing made perfect sense. We need more singers in our vocal ensembles, and there are few opportunities to sing aside from churches and the Ohio Valley Chorale. The choir has a long-standing tradition, and this alumni choir meant that we could inspire current singers to perform more challenging repertoire," he added.
Hofmeister also thanked the school board and district for the new choir robes to be worn at the concert.
Meanwhile, proceeds will directly fund future choir concerts and help purchase more music that students select based on their interests for the May concert, while a separate donation will be made for the Ukraine efforts.
CHANGE Inc. details March 17 St. Paddy's Fest fundraiser
WEIRTON -- Local community action and health agency CHANGE Inc. invites the community to join its representatives for their 18th St. Paddy's Fest fundraiser event on March 17 at Wheeling Island Hotel, Casino, and Racetrack.
St. Paddy's Fest, hosted by CHANGE Inc. with the support of local sponsors, benefits the programs and services that CHANGE Inc. provides to the Ohio Valley area, a spokesperson explained.
Sponsorships ranging from the Blarney Castle sponsorship of $175 to the Dublin sponsorship of $5,000 help provide quality entertainment, food and fun for guests. Tickets are available for $60 per person, which include dinner and entertainment, and "attire for the evening includes green, green, and more green."
The fundraising event kicks off with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and hors d'oeuvres and dinner being served at 7 p.m. Attendees can participate in the prize drawings and 50/50 drawing for a chance to win something extra to take home, the spokesperson added.

Weirton Hall of Fame seeking
nominees for Class of 2023
WEIRTON -- Since 2008, the Weirton Hall of Fame has looked to honor the sons and daughters of the city who have dedicated themselves to the service of others.
After a three-year gap, the committee in charge of selecting inductees into the hall are in search of a new group of nominees for the Class of 2023.
Nominations for the Weirton Hall of Fame will be accepted through April 14. Nominees include individuals with "outstanding accomplishments" starting with the incorporation of the city of Weirton in 1947. All candidates must have resided within the city for a minimum of five years. The committee notes those having just a Weirton-based post office box do not qualify.
Nominations may be made in the following categories: Philanthropy; public service; music and fine arts; business; industry and professions; and education and religion.
Nomination forms and instructions are available on the city of Weirton's website, www.cityofweirton.com, or may be picked up at the Mayor's Office located in the Weirton Municipal Building, 200 Municipal Plaza, Weirton.

WVNCC again offering free
low-impact aerobics class
WEIRTON -- West Virginia Northern Community College will once again be offering a free low-impact aerobics class on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the first-floor student room.
The class begins on Tuesday and ends on May 4, and enrollment is continuous through the class.
This is a low-impact class with an emphasis on cardiorespiratory endurance, strength improvement and flexibility. All exercise is done standing -- there is no chair or floor work -- usually to music that's 128-140 beats per minute. Everyone is encouraged to exercise at his or her own level.
Registration can be completed online -- search for WVNCC Community Education -- or by paper on the first day of class for which attendees are encouraged to come early.
