Miami Valley Bible Bowl set for March 4-5 at Weirton Heights Church of Christ
WEIRTON -- The Weirton Heights Church of Christ, located at 3169 Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton, will be hosting the 35th-annual Miami Valley Bible Bowl on March 4 and 5.
Grade school and high school students and adults from Churches of Christ in five states will be participating in the Jeopardy-style competition.
This marks the third year for the Weirton Heights Church of Christ to host the event.
Organized by Bruce Addams in 1988 at Ohio Valley College in Parkersburg, the Miami Valley Bible Bowl was founded with the goals of encouraging study of the Bible and the opportunity for Christians in different communities around the country to have friendly competition with the goal of building long-term friendships, a spokesperson explained.
The event is open to the public to watch the competition and will be streamed live on the Weirton Heights Church of Christ Facebook page on Saturday and on the church's youtube channel on Sunday. The website is www.weirtonheightscoc.com.

CWU World Day of Prayer
to be celebrated on March 3
WEIRTON -- The Church Women United, Weirton Unit, is planning the observance of World Day of Prayer for 2023.
It will be celebrated on March 3 beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Judi Tomes and the women of First Baptist Church, Homewood Avenue, serving as hostesses.
The event theme will be "Pray Without Ceasing" with Joyce Summers of St. Peter's AME Church as the featured speaker.

'Home Grown -- Appalachian Folklore' topic of CEOS session
NEW CUMBERLAND -- The hills and hollers of our Appalachian homeland are full of myths, legends, superstitions and folklore -- and Wednesday is the perfect time to learn about them.
Area residents are invited to the Hancock County Senior Center on Gas Valley Road, New Cumberland, to join in as the Community Educational Outreach Service takes a deeper look into the things that go bump in the night.
CEOS member Janet Keller will be presenting a lesson on "Home Grown -- Appalachian Folklore" to the club and interested guests. She will share stories behind traditional language, customs and beliefs and provide the perfect platform for continued folklore exploration and storytelling, according to an event spokesperson.
The meeting will be called to order at noon, following a lunch of turkey club sandwich, chips, dessert and beverage from the senior center's kitchen, and the lesson will begin at approximately 12:30 p.m..
"As always, the public is cordially invited to attend the meeting. There is no charge for the lesson, or the friendship and camaraderie you will experience, but if you wish to join the club for lunch, the normal senior center fee of $6 -- which includes dessert and a drink -- will apply," the spokesperson added.

Ohio Valley Youth Network
having meeting this evening
STEUBENVILLE -- Aaron Newman, Steubenville High School's assistant principal and guidance counselor, will be the special guest speaker when the Ohio Valley Youth Network meets today at 6:30 p.m. at the Sycamore Youth Center, located at 301 N. Fourth St., Steubenville.
"Aaron has a great grasp on what terms the challenges teens face today as he works with the Steubenville High School students on a regular basis," noted Bobbyjon Bauman, president of the Ohio Valley Youth Network.
"He will share about how teens in our area use social media and discuss struggles students face and things that he has found to be effective in guiding them on a positive path," Bauman added.
The meeting will include a sharing time about youth-related programs and events.
Fundraiser breakfast Saturday at Weirton American Legion
WEIRTON -- The Weirton American Legion Auxiliary Unit 10 will be hosting a veterans fundraising breakfast on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the post, located at 3140 Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton.
The menu is pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, coffee and orange juice. The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for those under age 10. It is free for those under age 5.
The event is open to the public.
"We look forward to everyone coming out and supporting our veterans," a spokesperson noted.
Easter gala trunk-or-treat
at Follansbee church
FOLLANSBEE -- Follansbee United Methodist Church, located at 1002 Virginia Ave., Follansbee, will be hosting an Easter gala trunk-or-treat.
It will be held April 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Wednesday Seniors League
being organized for April
EAST SPRINGFIELD -- A Wednesday Seniors League is being organized at Spring Hills Golf Club in East Springfield, starting in April, weather permitting.
The league is a four-person scramble but in case of an odd number of players, the three-person team will take an extra alternating shot.
Tee time will be 10 a.m. in April through June 1 and then 9 a.m. in June through the fall. A sign-in time of 20 minutes before tee time is mandatory. There will be a shotgun start. The entry fee is $5.
A end-of-season tournament and lunch will be held.

DKG Alpha Mu Chapter
plans next meeting April 1
WINTERSVILLE -- The Alpha Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma will hold its next meeting on April 1 at Starkdale Presbyterian Church, 4600 Sunset Blvd.
The program will be new membership and necrology, and there will be a Founders Day presentation.
The group's service project will involve monetary donations for the WEBA Food Pantry, an acronym for Wolf Run, East Springfield, Bergholz and Amsterdam.
The chapter's last meeting was held Dec. 10 at Riverview United Methodist Church in Toronto. Carolyn Kibble, chapter president, called the meeting to order. There were 32 members and one guest in attendance.
Kibble gave a reading by Helen Steiner Rice. Minutes from the Oct. 8 meeting were approved as was Treasurer Mary Barnes' financial report.
Lindsey Clifton, corresponding secretary, read a thank-you note from Carrollton High School in appreciation of the group's help with the Weekend Backpack help. A thank-you note for help with book bags also was received.
Members were reminded to get their meeting reservations in to Ann Wiley in a timely fashion.
Local Christmas concerts were discussed.
The personal growth and service committee collected donations for the Toronto Junior/Senior High School personal hygiene project.
Tickets were sold for the silent auction to support scholarships.
Marlene Wolf did a presentation on the Christmas story with cards.
A silent auction was held following lunch.
Edison High School Band sets winter concert for March 7
RICHMOND -- The Edison High School Concert Band will take the stage with its winter concert on March 7.
The curtains go up at 7 p.m. and 70 members in grades nine through 12 will perform a variety of music from "Hamilton" and "Atlantis: The Lost Continent" as well as the tunes "March to the Scaffold" and "Cotton-Eyed Joe." Members will feature performances from their recent Ohio Music Education Association Solo and Ensemble event.
Donations will be accepted with proceeds to benefit the Jack Moorehead Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Bethany College offering free programs regarding autsim
BETHANY -- Bethany College is offering a series of free informational programs for educators who work with youth with autism and family members of such youth.
Held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the college's Hurl Education Center, formerly Bethany Primary School, the series will continue with programs covering credible and not credible treatments and total communication on March 4 and navigating the process for individualized educational programs on April 8.
The programs are sponsored by the college's education department with support from the West Virginia Department of Education.
