STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville Art Association's "Celebrate Steubenville Today" themed juried exhibition of 150 works continues through March 29 at Historic Fort Steuben, 120 S. Third St., Steubenville, with the public able to see works from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"Area artists were tasked to produce works that show the scenery, architecture and sights in Steubenville with familiar places such as the Market Steet Bridge or Beatty Park depicted in new ways -- as the artists see them," notes a description in the fort's recent newsletter.
The show is co-chaired by Gina Judy and Robert Watson and had an opening reception and awards presentation on March 4 with more than $1,000 in award money distributed. Fritz Hartman was the juror.
Award winners included: Best of show, Gerald Van Scyoc, "Gateway to the West;" second place, Jim Watson, "Beatty Park Bridge," and People's Choice Award, for his oil painting of Beatty Park; third place, Jeanne D'Anniballe, "McCook Trail, Beatty Park;" fourth place, Bob Watson, "Langley Avenue;" honorable mention, Gina Judy, "Where I Grew Up in Steubenville;" honorable mention, Diane Kessler, "Church Mouse;" honorable mention, Mary "Sis" Keenan, "Neighborhood Roots;" and honorable mention, Jennifer Ingram, "Steelworker At Dusk."
