SAA announces dates for receiving artwork
for annual spring show
STEUBENVILLE -- In preparation for its annual spring exhibit, the Steubenville Art Association will be receiving artwork on two days at Eastern Gateway Community College, 4000 Sunset Blvd.
Artwork will be received there from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on April 14 and from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on April 15, according to Jim Watson, show chairman. Judging will be conducted April 15, beginning at 3 p.m.
Any artist 18 and older may enter up to three works. All works must be original, created by the person whose signature it bears and not previously entered in an SAA competition. All works must have been done within the last two years and must be framed, wired and ready for hanging. No sawtooth hangers are accepted.
There is a 50-pound limit on entries, and the size cannot exceed 48-by-48 inches, including the frame. Media include oil, watercolor, acrylic, pen and ink, colored pencil, stained glass, charcoal, pencil, batik, sculpture, pastel, mixed media mosaic and pottery. No photography or ceramics from molds are eligible. All artwork must be hand delivered to the college.
The entry fee for SAA members is $20 and $25 for nonmembers, in both cases for up to three works. Entry fees will not be refunded. Any work may be priced for sale with the art association receiving a 20 percent commission on any work sold.
The spring exhibit runs from May 6 through May 20, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The college is closed on Sundays. The opening reception will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on May 6 with the awards ceremony set for 2:30 p.m. Awards will include best of show, merit awards, honorable mentions, special awards and purchase awards.
Removal of works will be done May 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and May 20 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Adults: Want to learn a new language? How about the language of the deaf? On March 9 and 16 at 6 p.m., Jessica Cheslar will teach finger spelling, popular phrases and basic signs of ASL along with providing resources to continue on your own. Seating is limited, and registration is required.
USA Today bestselling author Laura Bradford will join the Cozy Mystery book discussion through skype on March 10 at 2 p.m. he group will discuss her book, "A Plus One for Murder." Call to join.
Join us for a Paint 'n Sip on March 11 at 3 p.m. to celebrate Women's History Month. It's free, and supplies are provided. Registration is required by calling the library.
Unwind for the day by coloring pages designed for adults on March 9 at 5:30 p.m.
Children: Visit and paint a picture on Monday at 4 p.m. for the Youth Art Contest. All art created on this day will be placed on display. The public is invited to vote for their favorite artwork throughout the month of March. It's for ages 4 to 10. Register by calling the library.

Free yoga class being offered on March 8 at Brooke Library
WELLSBURG -- Taylor Provenzano will lead a free yoga class at 6 p.m. March 8 at the Brooke County Public Library.
Participants will learn about the philosophy of yoga as well as proper breathing, postures and movements.

Spaghetti dinner fundraiser
for Ohio Valley Health Center
WINTERSVILLE -- A spaghetti dinner fundraiser to benefit the Ohio Valley Health Center is being planned at Wintersville United Methodist Church's Center of Hope, 702 Main St., Wintersville.
It will be held March 18 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The dinner includes all-you-can-eat spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and drinks. Cost is by donation. Patrons can dine in or get takeout.
'Abe Lincoln' to pay visit March 15 to Harrison County
CADIZ -- Curious about the connection Abraham Lincoln might have had to Harrison County? Let him tell you himself along with other interesting facts and events on Lincoln's life.
Kevin Wood of Michigan travels the country portraying the nation's 16th president and will be on hand at the Puskarich Library on March 15, beginning at 6 p.m. Dubbed "the fastest Abe in the West," Wood runs 5Ks in full attire. He has made appearances at several Lincoln historical sites, including Lincoln's home and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum.
