Every Child is an Artist
exhibit returns to Summit
Art Gallery on Thursday
WEIRTON -- The Top of West Virginia Arts Council's Every Child is an Artist exhibit is returning to the Summit Art Gallery on Thursday.
The annual exhibition showcases artwork of students from Brooke and Hancock county middle schools. Students in grades five through eight from Brooke, Oak Glen, St. Joseph the Worker and Weir middle schools will be recognized by the Top of WV Arts Council at the opening reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The upcoming show also will feature clothing created with recycled materials by two Brooke Middle Students for their annual "ReFashion Show."
"The Arts Council is excited to welcome our community's young artists back to the gallery," said Priscilla Runkel, event chair. "It's always exciting to see the creativity and talent in these students' work. With our permanent children's gallery almost complete, we'll get to see their work on display year-round."
The public is invited to attend the free opening reception held at 3539 Main St., Weirton. Light refreshments and snacks will be served, and parking is available behind the building. The exhibition will remain open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. until May 3 at the Summit Art Gallery.
The Summit Art Gallery is managed by the Top of West Virginia Arts Council, which works under the umbrella of the Top of WV Convention and Visitors Bureau. New exhibitions open at the gallery every two months. Top of WV CVB represents the interests of its membership and encourages tourism, promotes the arts and increases economic activity and development to further the general welfare and prosperity of Brooke and Hancock counties. It is dedicated to advertising local communities as a destination to the recreation, business meeting and convention markets. International Women's Day
to be marked Wednesday
STEUBENVILLE -- Looking for a way to honor a woman who has invested in you or your community?
Urban Mission Ministries representatives welcome area residents to join them on International Women's Day on Wednesday as they gather once again at Martha Manor to celebrate one year of serving women and children there and pay honor to the special women in their lives.
An open house will be held on noon to 2 p.m. at Martha Manor, located at 408 N. Fifth St., Steubenville. Activities include an opportunity to pay tribute to women who have made a difference, tours of Martha Manor, information about Urban Mission's ministry to women and a chance to learn about volunteer opportunities.

Retirees to meet Thursday
STEUBENVILLE -- Steubenville City Schools Retirees met for lunch Feb. 9 at Naples Spaghetti House.
A collection was taken for upkeep of the group's nutcracker that is part of the Steubenville Nutcracker Village. The organiztion's Christmas charity was discussed with the decision made to continue helping needy adults.
The next lunch will be at Margaret's Cafe in Toronto on Thursday. April's lunch will be held April 13 at Capraro's Restaurant and Lounge in Hopedale.
CHANGE Inc. details March 17 St. Paddy's Fest fundraiser
WEIRTON -- Local community action and health agency CHANGE Inc. invites the community to join its representatives for their 18th St. Paddy's Fest fundraiser event on March 17 at Wheeling Island Hotel, Casino, and Racetrack.
St. Paddy's Fest, hosted by CHANGE Inc. with the support of local sponsors, benefits the programs and services that CHANGE Inc. provides to the Ohio Valley area, a spokesperson explained.
Tickets are available for $60 per person, which include dinner and entertainment, and "attire for the evening includes green, green, and more green."
The fundraising event kicks off with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and hors d'oeuvres and dinner being served at 7 p.m. Attendees can participate in the prize drawings and 50/50 drawing for a chance to win something extra to take home, the spokesperson added.

Wellsburg church resuming
food sale on Wednesday
WELLSBURG -- The Altar and Rosary Society of St. John the Evangelist Church, 1300 Charles Street, Wellsburg, will resume the soup, sandwich and dessert sale on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until sold out.
A variety of five soups and sandwiches will be available. Patrons can dine in or get takeout. Orders can be called in to (304) 281-1239 after 11 a.m.
All items are donated and made by the women of the church. "We would like to thank everyone for the continued support of our fundraiser," a spokesperson noted.
'March Man-Ness' series on Mondays at Mount Carmel
STEUBENVILLE -- Mount Carmel Community Baptist Church, located at 708 N. Fifth St., Steubenville, is presenting its "March Man-Ness" series every Monday during March.
"Four dynamic preachers will bring a powerful word from our Lord and Saviour each Monday at 7 p.m.," a church spokesperson noted.
The speaker lineup is:
– Tonight: Pastor Michael H. Harrison, Union Baptist Church of Youngstown;
– March 13: Pastor Sedric D. Veal Sr., Temple Baptist Church, East Cleveland;
– March 20: Pastor Robert E. Young, Wayland Baptist Church, Baltimore, Md.; and
– March 27: Bishop C. Guy Robinson, the Tabernacle of the Lord Church and Ministries, Baltimore, Md.
The church's senior pastor is the Rev. Benjamin L. Calvert II.
Wednesday Seniors League
being organized for April
EAST SPRINGFIELD -- A Wednesday Seniors League is being organized at Spring Hills Golf Club in East Springfield, starting in April, weather permitting. It is for participants age 50 and older.
The league is a four-person scramble but in case of an odd number of players, the three-person team will take an extra alternating shot.
Tee time will be 10 a.m. in April through June 1 and then 9 a.m. in June through the fall. A sign-in time of 20 minutes before tee time is mandatory. There will be a shotgun start. The entry fee is $5.
