EGCC plans alumni dinner, awards night on April 14
STEUBENVILLE -- Eastern Gateway Community College will hold its first alumni dinner and awards night on April 14 at St. Florian Event Center, located at 286 Luray Drive, Wintersville.
Alumni and their families and friends are invited to attend the event in honor and celebration of the alumni and the legacy of EGCC, according to Kelley Frazier, EGCC alumni coordinator who is working with the alumni dinner planning committee to organize the event.
The keynote speaker will be Ed Florak, who served as president of the college from 1985 to 1999.
"We will be looking to honor six alumni at this event. They will be recognized as outstanding alumni, and one will awarded the EGCC Alumni of the Year award. We will also hear remarks from alumni during the evening," Frazier explained.
"This will be an annual event that will celebrate the alumni and legacy of the college and honor alumni for their contributions and accomplishments," she added, noting, "This event gives the opportunity for us to acknowledge and celebrate our alumni and remain connected to them as well."
The cocktail hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 and include entry and dinner. The deadline to purchase tickets is April 1. Questions can be directed to Frazier at alumni@egcc.edu.
The college was founded in 1968.
Tri-State Writers Society scheduled to meet Tuesday
STEUBENVILLE -- The Tri-State Writers Society, led by award-winning local author Karina Garrison, will meet on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Main Library of the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County.
The Main Library is located at 407 S. Fourth St., Steubenville.

Foster care information to be shared at Wedesday session
WELLSBURG -- A representative of Necco, a local foster care agency, will be available to answer questions, one on one, from those interested in becoming a foster parent.
It will be held at the Brooke County Public Library on Wednesday between noon and 2 p.m. No appointment is needed. Light refreshments will be provided.
Harrison Coal and Reclamation Historical Park meeting set
CADIZ -- The 2023 annual Harrison Coal and Reclamation Historical Park meeting will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Harrison County History of Coal Museum located in the lower level of the Puskarich Public Library, 200 E. Market St., Cadiz.
The agenda includes the election of officers and directors; a membership meeting; a review and discussion of plans and fundraising; and machinery maintenance, restorations and projects.
Anyone interested in being an officer, serving on a committee or volunteering is urged to attend the meeting that will be held n the large meeting room.
Monthly Harrison Coal and Reclamation Historical Park membership meetings are held the first Tuesday at the Harrison County Genealogy Society at 134 S. Main St., Cadiz, from November through April, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
