Philoptochos taking orders for Easter bread through Saturday
STEUBENVILLE -- The Philoptochos Society of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Steubenville is taking orders for loaves of Tsoureke or Easter bread as part of an annual fundraiser.
A loaf is $10, and the deadline to order is Saturday by calling Marianne at (740) 264-2462.
Orders can be picked up on April 4 and April 5 at the church, which is located at 300 S. Fourth St., Steubenville.
Weirton Medical Center group having 'Books Are Fun' sale
WEIRTON -- The Weirton Medical Center Auxiliary will hold a "Books are Fun" sale from 7 a.m to 4 p.m. on Thursday and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.
The sale will be held in the medical center atrium located on Colliers Way.
John 'Wiz' Fabian Memorial Children's Easter egg hunt set
MINGO JUNCTION -- The John "Wiz" Fabian Memorial Children's Easter egg hunt will be held April 8 at Aracoma Park in Mingo Junction, beginning at 11 a.m.
The event is for children from zero to age 12. A light lunch will be provided, and there will be a visit from the Easter bunny.
Reservations are required and can be placed by texting (740) 457-6762 or call (740) 535-8037. Another reservation option is to e-mail to mingocouncil4361@gmail.com.
A name and the number of children attending should be included in the reservation communication.
In the event of heavy rain, the egg hunt will be moved indoors to the Knights of Columbus Hall.
The event is co-sponsored by John Scott Fabian and the Mingo Knights of Columbus Council 4361.
Extension is offering session
to learn about hydrangeas
STEUBENVILLE -- Calling all gardeners interested in joining OSU Extension for an evening of hydrangeas and information such as what influences hydrangea color, what kind of hydrangea will work best for you and how should you care for hydrangeas in Ohio gardens.
"Topics for the session include varieties of hydrangea, selecting the best hydrangea for your garden, and, of course, caring for your hydrangeas," a spokesperson noted.
The class will be held April 19 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Harrison County Fairgrounds Commercial Building, 550 Grant St., Cadiz. The cost of the program is $30 per person, and pre-registration is required. Refreshments and a hydrangea plant are included with the cost of registration.

International Seniors Club back meeting after hiatus
WEIRTON -- The International Senior Club met on March 14 at Undo's in Weirton.
Vice President Tony La Rosa read the invocation and read a prayer for Mike DiBiase, who recently passed. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and joined in singing "God Bless America." Members had a sit-down dinner and dessert, after which President Regina Truax welcomed everyone back from the winter break.
Rita Orler, secretary, read the minutes, which were approved. Norma Henson gave the treasurer's report, which was approved and filed for audit.
Members voted to keep the beginning meeting time at 5 p.m. "Happy Birthday" was sung to all January, February and March members. Get well cards and sympathy cards were sent to members by MaryLou Rossi and Barbara Purks. A thank-you card was received from member Pat Rossi.
President Truax presented a small gift to 25 members who had perfect attendance. Liz Beecroft read the joke of the day.

Mobile breast cancer screening unit in Weirton, Wellsburg
The Brooke County Health Department and C.H.A.N.G.E. Inc. will host visits by Bonnie's Bus, a mobile breast cancer screening unit, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 4 near C.H.A.N.G.E.'s Weirton office and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 5 outside the Brooke County Public Library.
Operated in partnership with West Virginia University Hospitals, the 40-foot long wheelchair-accessible vehicle offers digital mammograms. It was established through a donation by Jo and Ben Statler in memory of Jo Statler's mother, Bonnie Wells Wilson.
Medicaid, Medicare and all private insurances and coverage will be accepted, and funds are available through the breast and cervical cancer screening program for those who are uninsured or underinsured.
A physician's order for a mammogram is required. Appointments should be made by calling (304) 737-3665 for the Wellsburg visit and (304) 797-7733 ext. 1306 for the Weirton visit.
Congressional art competition for Eastern Ohio students
CANFIELD -- U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Marietta, has announced that high school students in Eastern Ohio residing in the 6th Congressional District are eligible to participate in the 2023 Congressional Art Competition, "An Artistic Discovery."
"This is a wonderful opportunity for local high school student artists," Johnson said. "I always enjoy viewing the artwork produced by our talented young people, and I encourage all interested schools and students to participate. I look forward to welcoming the winning student to Washington, D.C., and proudly displaying his or her piece in the U.S. Capitol alongside winners from across the country," he added.
The winning student-artist will be invited to Washington, D.C., to take part in a national reception and have his or her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. All high school students living in the 6th District can participate, regardless of where they attend high school -- public, private, home school or online.
All submissions are due by April 24 and can be either mailed or delivered in person to Johnson's district offices in Marietta at 246 Front St. or Mahoning Valley, 4137 Boardman-Canfield Road, Suite 106. The winning submissions will be determined by a panel of experts and local officials, and the winners will be notified during the first week of May.
In addition to the overall winner, one runner-up will have his or her artwork displayed in one of Johnson's district offices. Johnson will award a "People's Choice" award where images of selected artwork will be posted on his Facebook page, and fans will have the opportunity to vote on a final winner. The student whose artwork receives the highest number of "likes" will be designated the winner of the People's Choice award, and his or her artwork will be displayed in a district office.
All artwork must be no larger than 26-by-26-4 including the frame and can weigh no more than 15 pounds. The artwork should be original in design, concept and execution. Acceptable media include: Paintings -- oil, acrylics and watercolors; drawings -- pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink and markers; collage; prints -- lithographs, silkscreen and lock prints; mixed media -- use of more than two media such as pencil, ink and watercolor; computer-generated art; and photography.
