JVS students medal at regionals

Early childhood education students at Jefferson County Joint Vocational School recently placed at the Future Career and Community Leaders of America Region II competition in Coshocton. Adviser Becky Kelley said 25 schools were represented at the event on March 18 with several hundred students competing. JVS students Lita Bennett and Catnip Cottrell earned a gold medal in the lesson presentation team category while Paige Furbee received bronze in the early childhood education contest. Bennett also received gold in the language and literacy contest with Karlee Warren gaining bronze in ECE. The top 10 students advanced with the team of Bennett and Cottrell as well as Furbee moving on to the state competition on April 27-28 in Columbus, where the JVS chapter will be recognized for receiving the Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety grant, and senior members will be lauded for completing more than 100 hours of community service with Warren gaining an individual commendation.
