Bishop Mussio Elementary students are starring in musical adventure

STEUBENVILLE -- Disney's "Moana JR." is playing at Lanman Hall at Catholic Central High School on April 28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m.
The 60-minute musical adventure, designed for middle school-aged performers, is based on the 2016 Disney film "Moana." The Bishop Mussio Elementary fourth- and fifth- grade cast includes 68 students led by Kayla Becca and Renee Wnek.
"See the line where the sky meets the sea? You'll love this thrilling and heart-warming stage adaptation of the coming-of-age tale of Moana as she sets sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage," a news release notes. She and the demigod Maui embark on an epic journey of self-discovery and camaraderie as she learns to harness the power that lies within.
Adapted for young performers, this musical includes favorite songs by Tony, Grammy, Emmy and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa'i, and Mark Mancina, including "How Far I'll Go," "Shiny" and "You're Welcome."
"With its empowering message of bravery, 'Moana JR.' is sure to awaken your inner hero," a spokesperson noted.
The cast includes Gia DiGristina as Moana, Gus Symington as Maui, Nicholas Baillargeon as Chief Tui (Moana's father), Tatianna Truax as Sina (Moana's mother), Savannah Brock as Gramma Tala, Hollis Chaney as Hei Hei, Thomas Tygett as Pua, Shylee Andlinger/Andy Delaney/Mikey Mizak as Chief Ancestors, Libby Rivers as Te Ka, Sofia Kissinger as Te Fiti, Mason Saggio as Tamatoa, and Braden Wanchik/Frankie Taylor as Tamatoa's right and left claws.
The ensemble and stage crew include the fourth- and fifth-grade drama club members. Becca is the choreographer while Wnek is the music director. The sisters team to co-direct the entire production.
