STEUBENVILLE -- Celebrate National Library Week Monday through April 29 at the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County and get a free book bag at any library branch while supplies last.
"There's More to the Story" is this year's theme.
"Libraries are full of stories in a variety of formats from picture books to large print, audiobooks to e-books and more," explained Jennifer Cesta, public relations coordinator for the library system. "But there's so much more to the story. The library system lends items like museum passes and hotspots. Library programming brings communities together for entertainment, education and connection through book clubs, story times, movie nights, crafting classes and lectures.
"Library infrastructure advances communities, providing Internet and technology access, literacy skills and support for businesses, job seekers and entrepreneurs," Cesta added.
Programs and activities planned at the library's various locations are:

Adults: In this "Get Published" workshop on April 29 at 11 a.m., writers will discover different ways to publish and how to craft query letters that get manuscripts moved from the slush pile to the table of consideration. Learn what agents and editors want to see versus what will land a manuscript into the recycle bin. Join professional educator, author and publisher Brian Hershey for this workshop. Registration is required.
Have craft items you don't use anymore? Don't throw them away. In honor of Earth Month, Re-Craft Steubenville will have a container at the Main Library and Schiappa Branch this week for people to make a donation. The organization resells the used items at a low cost for others to enjoy.
Do you enjoy Hummingbird watching? Gary Bush will share information about this popular bird on April 26 at 1 p.m. Registration is required.
The book club will meet on April 26 at 10:30 a.m. to discuss "The Unsinkable Greta James" by Jennifer Smith. Call to join.
Children: Stop in anytime April 24-29 for a Grab-and-Go Story Time while supplies last. Each bag contains a book to read and craft to do.
The entire family can visit to make a recycled bird feeder on April 29 at 2 p.m. Registration is required.

Adults: There will a Charles Schulz portrayal on April 27 at 6 p.m. Schulz was a cartoonist best known as the creator of the Peanuts comic strip that featured Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus and all the rest of the gang. A veteran of World War II, Schulz had his first Peanuts strip published in 1950 in seven newspapers. This living history portrayal of Schulz begins with a monologue telling the story of Schulz's life and career, followed by a question-and-answer session -- in character -- and a question-and-answer session with the show's writer and researcher, James Froemel. Registration is required.
