EGCC moves date of first
alumni dinner to June 14
STEUBENVILLE -- Eastern Gateway Community College has changed the date of its first Alumni Dinner and Awards Night to honor the achievements of alumni and to feature keynote addresses by EGCC President Michael Geoghegan and former EGCC President Ed Florak.
The dinner and program will now be held June 14 at St. Florian Event Center, located at 286 Luray Drive, Wintersville, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour and the dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $50 and include entry and dinner. The deadline to purchase tickets is June 1. For information about tickets, contact Kelley Frazier, EGCC alumni coordinator who is working with the alumni dinner planning committee to organize the event, at alumni@egcc.edu.
"We are overjoyed to announce our first Alumni Dinner and Awards Night. We will recognize our Alumni of the Year Award winner, Scott Campbell of Steubenville, and give out outstanding alumni awards to four distinguished graduates," Geoghegan said.
In addition to Campbell, outstanding alumni awards will be presented to Dorothy Blaner of Toronto, Alexandra "Cookie" West of Steubenville, Robert Thompson of Hubbard and Johnny Walker of Washington, D.C.
"We are so proud of our graduates," Geoghegan commented.
"They are making a tremendous impact in so many ways. Some alumni used their skills to find great jobs in emerging fields like electric vehicles, dental hygiene, nursing and specialty care in medicine. Others used their college degree to advance in their current job and workplace like one of our Outstanding Alumni Award winners Robert Thompson, who is now police chief in Hubbard. We want to recognize their achievements and contributions to their communities," Geoghegan said.
"At Eastern Gateway, we put our students first and are committed to helping them graduate with a debt-free college degree," he added.
Eastern Gateway is a state, public, accredited institution of higher learning established in 1968 dedicated to providing a debt-free, college degree to students from Columbiana, Jefferson, Mahoning and Trumbull counties across Ohio and other locations.
With two main campuses in Steubenville and Youngstown, Eastern Gateway has a unique mission serving a unique student population who are, on average, 33 years old and are often working and for the first time pursuing a higher education, according to a news release.
Orders being taken for annual
geranium sale by Toronto
Beautification Committee
TORONTO -- The Toronto Beautification Committee is having its annual geranium sale with May 1 the last day to place an order.
A geranium is $3.85. The colors are red, white, coral, light pink, salmon and dark pink.
To order by phone, call (740) 537-4332. Order forms are available at Tri B's Coffee Shop, the Subway shop, the Toronto Post Office and Toronto Apothecary.
The order form and payment must be received before May 1 or the order will not be processed, according to a promotional flier. There is a $5 delivery charge option available. A check can be made out to TBC and mailed to TBC, P.O. Box 102, Toronto OH 43964.
The pick-up day for orders is May 13 from 10 a.m to noon at 401 S. Fourth St., Toronto. Geraniums not picked up by noon will be sold without refund.
Farm Bureau is planning
Ag Innovator Field Day
STEUBENVILLE -- The Jefferson County Farm Bureau's Ag Innovator Field Day will be held April 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Irish Ridge Farm, located at 621 township Road 100, Mount Pleasant.
Topics will include:
≤ "Solar -- For Farm and Home:" Learn all the aspects of utilizing solar on your farm. Ask the questions you have been meaning to ask, a promotional flier notes.
≤ "Drone Spraying and Seeding:" See first hand how drones are becoming the newest innovation in agriculture.
≤ "Liability on the Farm:" What if? A question we must ask ourselves when owning a farm, the flier notes. This discussion will lay out all you need to know about the liability when operating a farm.
The speakers for the event will be Sheldon Stutzman of NorthEast Energy Advisers, Fred Kungl of FK Agronomics and Adam Perzanowski of the Milestone Co.

Brooms for sale, flag program topics for N. Cumberland Lions
NEW CUMBERLAND -- Varous items were address when President Dorothy Hawkes presided at the April 11 meeting of the New Cumberland Lions Club
Rick Tinsky offered the prayer, and Hawkes led in the Pledge of Allegiance. The minutes from the last meeting were accepted as read.
Communications were received from the W.Va. Lions Youth Camps and Exchange and the Leader Dogs for the Blind, thanking the local club for recent donations. The treasurer's report was placed on file for audit.
The club has four large brooms for sale at $17 each and 11 small brooms for sale at $14 each. Those interested to purchase them are advised to call (304) 479-5855 or send a private message to Leslie and Ed Fields through Facebook.
Treasurer Alan Lee noted that he has contacted the Chester and Newell Lions Clubs to coordinate the Student of the Month scholarship presentation.
The nominating committee, chaired by Andrew Kefer, immediate past president, is in the process of completing a roster of officers to be nominated for the 2023-24 year. Once the nominees are presented to the club, the floor will be opened for additional nominations.

Tom Stiles is working with Jeanne Cox to put together a flag program that will be presented to the students at the New Manchester Elementary School on April 21. It will include a demonstration by the Tri-State Marines on how to properly fold the flag.
Kefer announced that Oak Glen High School will be presenting the play "The Addams Family" on May 5, 6, 11, 12, 13 and 14. Jennifer Meeker noted that Music and Art at Oak Glen will be Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. Admission is free to the public. Tributes will be made to the late John Edwards and the late Kelsey Hayward, both former members of the New Cumberland Lions Club.
Bingo party April 29 to benefit Follansbee Community Days
FOLLANSBEE -- A bingo party to benefit Follansbee Community Days will be held April 29 at the Follansbee Community House near Follansbee Park.
Doors will open at noon, with bingo to start at 1 p.m. The cost is $20 for 20 games, three cards per game.
There is an additional fee for cover-all, the Chinese auction and other fundraisers.
