STEUBENVILLE -- The Fort Steuben Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution met April 8 at Historic Fort Steuben with Regent Mary Ann Jesse presiding.
The invocation and blessing were given by Chaplain Roberta Fedoush who also led in the national anthem. First Vice Regent Jeanne Vega led in the Pledge of Allegiance with the American's Creed led by Second Vice Regent Sue Davidson.
Jesse read the president general's message and introduced program speaker Denise White, insignia and cameo society chairman, who gave a presentation on DAR pins, qualification criteria and their placement on official DAR ribbon. She also spoke about the Cameo Society.
During the business meeting, the minutes of the last meeting were read by Secretary Vickie Joseph.and approved. Joseph gave the treasurer's report.
Under committee reports, Jesse, in women's issues, announced that Kim Van Diver's essay won first place in the district and will advance to the national level for judging.
Veterans Affairs Chairman Jeanne Vega reported that the chapter would be arranging for ceremonies to honor Vietnam War-era veterans. Commemorative pins will be given to the veterans, possibly at VFW or American Legion meetings.
Under old business, the OSDAR state conference was held March 23-26 with representation from Jesse, Joseph, Nancy Valles and prospective Cheryl Hendrix attended. Fort Steuben members attended several educational workshops and dinners.
Jesse reminded members to record their Service to America hours.
Under new business, it was announced that the 132nd Continental Congress will be held at NSDAR Constitution Hall on June 28 through July 2.
DAR members training involves three courses -- committee leader's, members and new horizon.
A sunshine report was given, and members were reminded about days to fly the flag.
The next meeting is May 13 at Historic Fort Steuben.
