RICHMOND -- Members of the Future Farmers of America at Edison High School gathered inside the cafeteria April 21, to hold their annual banquet. With 121 people in attendance, new members were inducted and others, recognized for their achievements.
The event consisted of 23 Greenhand FFA candidates being recognized, 17 members receiving a chapter degree and 18 earning FFA jackets. Freshman Micah Larkins received the Star Greenhand award and Hannah Randolph, a two-year member, was named star chapter farmer. The Blue and Gold Award went to Bayleigh Gump, a four-year member, who earned the most activity points in the organization. Ron Ferrell was named honorary chapter member, "for being someone in the community who is important and helpful to the chapter." Officials said of Ferrell, an Edison teacher, "He helps in the shop every day and assists students doing bookwork."
Outgoing officers included: Jadyn Nicholson, president; Gump, vice president; Lily Larkins, secretary; Jaima Howell, treasurer; Adali Reynolds, reporter; Natalie Lucas, sentinel; Zoe Shell, student adviser.
New officers inducted for the 2023-24 term were: Lucas, president; Reynolds, vice president; Lily Larkins, secretary; Caden Rudy, treasurer; Grace Browning, reporter; Micah Larkins, sentinel; and Ava Cline, student adviser.
Approximately $21,239 were reported in fruit sales, with top seller Gump earning $2,716; Randolph, $1,079; Nicholson, $1,075.50; and Konnor Leishman, $821.
Strawberry sales earned the group $8,871, with top earners being Randolph, $985; Gump, $822; Nicholson, $572; and Ali Shrieve, $488.
Active members recognized included: Browning, Lane Fomenko, Gump, Howell, Lily Larkins, Micah Larkins, Lucas, Nicholson, Randolph, Reynolds, Rudy, Shelby Robinson and Shell.
