By Staff reports 2 min read

WEIRTON -- The Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Women's Educators Association met May 4 at Aloha Delights, with President Diane Higgins presiding.

Higgins welcomed members, followed by Bonnie Queses providing an inspirational reading, "Enjoy Your Coffee," as the thought of the day, and afterwards, a blessing.

Treasurer Carolyn Allison gave the financial report, and Margo Polk's form for altruistic hours, monetary and non-monetary items, was distributed and recorded.

Higgins is planning to distribute the bylaws at the June meeting.

Fraternity education was presented by Janet Benzo, who circulated a word puzzle/scramble to solve.

Under publicity, Ruth Fuller reported she sends articles to local newspapers with information regarding chapter meetings and Nancy Deters and Chairman Liz Pugh then collect those articles when published.

Pugh, as scholarship chair, announced the association's yearly scholarship winner, of which she will send a letter inviting the student and their family to the June meeting. She made a recommendation to rotate or divide the four high schools -- between Brooke and Madonna high schools one year, and Weir and Oak Glen high schools the next. The recommendation was unanimously passed.

Under unfinished business, Higgins noted she is looking to secure a permanent area for the monthly meetings. Jerry DeFilippo secured a meeting place for noon, June 1 at Froehlich's Classic Corner in Steubenville. The motion was made and carried. Hostesses will be Twinkle Smith and Higgins. Members are requested to wear blue and gold to the upcoming meeting to celebrate West Virginia Day.

Higgins distributed the guidelines/policies and procedures to the members.

Under concerns for the group, members mentioned get-well wishes for Shirley Washam, Sandi Anderson, Eileen Snyder and Elaine Ferarri.

Susan Cullinan asked for a remembrance prayer.

The hostesses for the May birthday party were Nancy Conley and Bonnie Queses, with members celebrating by singing, "Happy Birthday" to Conley.

Higgins offered special thanks for "the beautiful plants given to each member," after which she adjourned the meeting.
