Youth group serving free meal

WINTERSVILLE -- The Wintersville Methodist Youth Group will host its third-annual community dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Center for Hope, located at 702 Main St. in Wintersville. The youth group will prepare and cook the meal, which consists of rigatoni, salad and homemade desserts. The meal is free of charge. For information, call (740) 264-1676. "This is our way of giving back to our community hosting this free dinner ever year," stated Tiffany Manley, youth pastor. "Our teens are very excited to serve."

Soup and sandwich sale set

WELLSBURG -- The Altar Rosary Society of St. John the Evangelist Church will hold their monthly soup, sandwich and dessert sale at 11 a.m. Wednesday until sold out. The church, located at 1300 Charles St., will offer dine-in or take out service.

A variety of soups and sandwiches and an assortment of desserts will be available. Orders can be called in at (304) 281-1239 after 11 a.m.

All items are donated and made by the ladies of the parish. The next scheduled lunch is set for July 12. Officials thanked those who continue to support the fundraiser.

Juneteenth church service in Weirton

WEIRTON -- The Weirton Ecumenical Council will present a Juneteenth worship service at 2 p.m. June 17 at Morning Star Baptist Church, located at 3124 Weir Ave. Speakers will include Council pastors along with a guest pastor. The WEC combined choirs will minister in song along with liturgical dance and flags. Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African-American holiday. The community is invited to attend.

Veterans commission meeting

STEUBENVILLE -- The monthly meeting of the Veterans Service Commission of Jefferson County will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. The meeting will take place at 500 Marker St., Suite 310 in Steubenville. All veterans and other parties are welcome to attend.

Variety of activities planned at library

STEUBENVILLE--The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County will be holding the following featured program, "Tails and Tales" summer reading program and activities

Children: Meet the beloved character Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile on at 2 p.m. June 19. Stories and a craft are shared. Make a turtle using buttons at 5 p.m. June 22. Make and paint a snake using clay at noon on June 23. This program is for ages 8-14. Build a mini castle anytime June 19. All castles will be displayed in the library for everyone to enjoy.

Teens: Paint a Dragon at 6 p.m. June 21. Have a to-be-read book that needs protected? Stop in to paint a dragon for it.
