Picnic scheduled for steelworkers
WEIRTON -- The Weirton Steel 25-Year Club will hold its picnic at 11 a.m. July 15 at the Serbian Picnic Grounds, located at 80 Serbian Way, Weirton. The event is open to all Weirton Steel retirees and those who are retired or active at Cleveland Cliffs. Officials noted all may attend whether or not they have 25 years of service.
Christmas in July
BLOOMINGDALE -- It's Christmas in July in Bloomingdale and Santa Claus is coming to town! Exciting things are coming to the area Monday and Tuesday.
Beginning Monday, everything starts at the Bloomingdale Park. Starting at 6:30 p.m., a flag raising will be held by George Burton, Navy veteran. The national anthem will be performed by the Rev. Melody Essex of Shaffer Chapel AME Church. Following Essex's performance, the Rev. Bill Hibbs will serve as speaker. Hibbs is a Wayne High graduate of the Class of '64.
A free weiner roast for all will be served before a cornhole tournament, which is open to everyone.
Santa will be on site to initiate the ice rink and new rides. Ice skates will be provided.
As always, officials noted everything will be free of charge and everyone is invited to attend.
July 4 activities were announced, beginning with an 8 a.m. breakfast at Grace Point, located at 113 High St. in Bloomingdale. At 1 p.m., a parade will line up. The starting point is at the top of county Road 39. The, "Anything that Moves" parade begins at 1:30 p.m. and anyone can participate.
A big wheel race will take place at the town hall at 2:30 p.m. A plunger race will start at the town hall at 3 p.m. A pet parade will be held at the starting point of the post office beginning at 4 p.m. The ice rink, inflatables, rides and dunk tank provided by Movin' and Groovin' Productions will begin at 5 p.m. A water balloon toss will start at 6 p.m. and a frozen T-shirt starts at 7 p.m. A Jello contest is slated for 8 p.m. A Chinese drawing will be held at 9:30 p.m. as well as a 50/50 drawing.
Fireworks begin at 10 p.m.
