Strosnider fundraiser set for today

STEUBENVILLE -- A fundraiser for 11-year-old Landyn Strosnider of Steubenville, will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Scaffidi's Restaurant and Tavern. Strosnider was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, May 19. The event is being held to help ease some of the financial burdens that come with this unexpected diagnosis, according to Landyn's parents, Kevin and Andrea Strosnider. The fundraiser will run during Scaffidi's regular business hours and those interested in helping may either dine in or carry out their meals. A Chinese Auction and 50/50 drawing will also be held.

Roundtable event coming to Wheeling

WHEELING -- The guest speaker of the next Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable will be Historian Harry Smeltzer. The event is scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. June 24 at the historic West Virginia Independence Hall's courtroom in Wheeling.

The lecture focuses on the 69th N.Y. State Militia's actions at the First Battle of Bull Run on July 21, 1861. The regiment was assigned to William Techumseh Sherman's brigade.

Smeltzer is a Pittsburgh resident with degrees from Pennsylvania State University and Katz School of the University of Pittsburgh. He has had work published in the Journal Civil War History, the Civil War Monitor, Civil War Times and America's Civil War.

He sits on the board of directors of the Save Historic Antietam Foundation and serves as a tour guide of the First Bull Run battlefield.

Senior center to hold poetry reading

WEIRTON -- The Weirton Senior Citizen's Center will be hosting a poem reading event from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. June 30 at the center, located at 3425 Main St.

Pastor Gary Lilly will read poems and scripts he has written for the seniors. The public is invited to attend. Lilly's works have been read during various events, including Weirton's recent anniversary celebration. Coffee will be served during the readings.

Museum to hold open houses

RICHMOND -- An house will be held at the Crew House Museum on Main Street in Richmond from noon to 4 p.m. June 25.

The open house will also take place from noon to 4 p.m. on the second and fourth Sunday during July and August. The event, sponsored by the Richmond Community Historical Society, will feature a large display of Jefferson Union memorabilia. Visitors are welcome.
