WEIRTON -- Weirton Medical Center held its annual auxiliary awards dinner July 18 in the hospital's conference room. Prior to a sit-down dinner, auxiliary officers and administrators interacted with one another, discussing the meaning behind the event. The awards dinner centers around administrators receiving a check from auxiliary officers, who raised contributions through various fundraising events. Fundraisers include a $5 jewelry sale, book sale and Robert's medical uniform sales. A check for $30,000 was presented to administrators, including: John Frankovich, chief executive officer; David Artman, chief operating officer; Lisa Conti, executive vice president; Jim Shockley, chairman of the board of trustees; Sondra Weigel, president of the auxiliary; Joe Sayut, chief financial officer; and Joy Gorlock, chief nursing officer. Administrators thanked the auxiliary for making projects at the hospital possible, including the atrium, breast cancer center and cafeteria area. They noted they are grateful for the hard work and dedication of the volunteers, saying they are the best part of WMC.
While times may go by and the words not said, administrators are always appreciative of what volunteers and the auxiliary do. Auxiliary officers recognized were Weigel, president; Elda Weekley, recording secretary; Domenica "Minnie" Malloy, corresponding secretary; and Vivian Weigel, assistant treasurer. Special recognition went to three women who have significant years of service. Each received a certificate for their time helping make WMC a better place. Honorees were: Florence Jonczak, 40 years; Mary Lou Batcho, 20 years; and Sue Ball, 10 years.
Others in attendance were: Paula Billyck, Marsha Jones, Cathy Colabrese, Roberta Ziemer, Barbara Hall, Barb Visnic, Lola Starvaggi, Susie Collines and Dee Krinock. Those helping serve and prepare the meal included food service employees Tiffany Roberts, Kristen Schilton and Martha McCloud.
