Awards presented at steak fry

NEW CUMBERLAND -- The New Cumberland Lions Club recently held its annual steak fry at Tomlinson Run Park.

The event began with Lion Rick Tinsky calling everyone together in prayer. A special prayer was said for the late Lion, Tom Stiles, and President Pam Stiles.

Vice President Sally Greathouse presided over the meeting. Guests who were in attendance included Past District Govs. Bernice Pitcock and Gary Pitcock.

Business matters were waived until the next meeting and awards were then presented. Gary Pitcock presented the Leonard Jarrett Award to Lions Bill Greathouse and Cole Young. Young and Greathouse were named award recipients for their work in helping the community, officials stated.

"The Leonard Jarrett Award is the highest honor given by the West Virginia Lions Sight Conservation Foundation," Pitcock said.

"It was established in 1984 and is awarded to an individual or Lions Club that has serviced the sight and hearing needs of persons who cannot afford to handle those needs," he added.

Those in attendance were informed the final pulled pork takeout fundraiser will be held at the New Cumberland River Fest Sept. 23-24.

September meetings were announced, with the next regular meeting scheduled to take place Sept. 12 at the Christian Church.

A board meeting will be held Sept. 19 at the New Cumberland city building. The last regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 26 at the Christian Church.
