WELLSBURG — Brooke County students of all ages will have an opportunity to receive an assortment of school supplies, learn more about their schools and have fun with their families when the Brooke County School District holds its annual Back-to-School Bash Thursday.
Held on the Brooke High School-Middle School campus, the event will include a variety of activities and opportunities to learn more about the various programs and clubs offered by the schools.
Preschool, kindergarten and students with sensory issues are scheduled to attend the bash at 4 p.m.
After the hour, the event will be open to all students between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The bash will be capped off with Meet the Team Night, where athletes playing in various fall sports will be introduced at Brooke Memorial Stadium.
A fireworks display will conclude the event around 8:30 p.m.
A key element of the bash is the distribution of school supplies and personal hygiene products to students, according to organizers.
Items were collected during the school district’s Stuff the Bus campaign.
From July 10-15, area businesses, groups and citizens responded to a call to fill a school bus outside the school board’s office with such school items.
Helping to load the donations into the bus were members of Brooke High and Brooke Middle schools’ sports teams.
Members included the high school’s dance committee; boys’ and girls’ basketball; soccer teams; tennis; baseball; volleyball; softball and swim teams; and the middle school’s football and basketball teams.
School district officials joined in the call for help.
School board members, Superintendent Jeffrey Crook, board office personnel, and principals from the high school, including new head principal Eric James attended the back-to-school event.
The Stuff the Bus campaign was coordinated by Amanda DiMarzio, Karen Givens-Whetsell and Brittany Teaters.
Some students will be starting the school year with a free haircut thanks to the efforts of Alyssa Jezierski, who has arranged for several local hairstylists to provide their services to fulfill her senior honor’s project.
Appointments should be made between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. by visiting https://www.haircutdrive.com.
