Dinner to be held in East Springfield
EAST SPRINGFIELD -- The East SpringfieldCommunity and Recreation Service Center will hold a spaghetti dinner from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at the center, located on county Road 39 next to the firehouse. In addition to spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert will be served at the cost of $10 per person. Carry out is available by calling (740) 543-3700. All communities are invited to attend.
Toronto to hold back-to-school event
TORONTO -- Toronto City School District will hold a Back to School Bash for all grades preschool through 12th grade. The event will occur from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Toronto City School District on Dennis Way. The event will feature more than 25 vendors. Vendors will offer free tickets for a chance to enter a basket filled with student supplies. Activities will feature a bouncy house, slides, an obstacle course by Sunshine Rentals, assistance with bus route schedules, nutrition forms and free sling backpacks and school supplies from the district.
The disc jockey for the bash will be Richie Coburn. The Toronto band will perform at 5:15 p.m. Meet the team for all fall sports will follow the band performance. Teams include middle school and high school football, volleyball, cheerleaders and golf. Food will be provided by Ice Cream Island, 740BBQ, South Paw Eatz and the Wood Fire Pizza Company. Admission is free and the community is welcome. The event will be rain or shine.
OVHC kickball fundraiser
STEUBENVILLE -- The third-annual,"Kickin' it for Ohio Valley Health Center kick ball tournament will take place at 10 a.m. Aug. 19 at the Belleview ball field. This tournament is double-elimination and co-ed with a minimum of two women. Registration must be completed by noon Aug. 18. The cost is $200 per team with a team of 10. Awards will be given for winning team and best uniform. The center's goal this year is to not only help raise the necessary funding the facility needs, but to bring awareness of the services offered by the OVHC.
"Revenue raised from this year's kickball tournament will help support our onsite medication room, which is a helpful resource to so many of our patients," according to Ann Quillen, executive director of the health center. Gospel group to perform at church
WEIRTON -- The gospel group known as the Needhams will be performing at 10 a.m. Aug. 20 at Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church, located at 121 Ivy St. All are welcome to attend and praise the Lord through music. Attendees may bring friends and family to join time of worship.
Class of '73 to hold 50th reunion

Local man authors book
STEUBENVILLE -- Steubenville resident Frank Bell has written a Christian, romantic suspense book entitled "The Light In The Forest."
His work, published through Booklocker and is available on Amazon.com and major Kindle publishers. The story focuses on a boy and girl who grow up as neighbors in an isolated forest. They are caught in the middle of a supernatural battle between good and evil. Bell's pen name is listed as Gabriel Sinclair. Reviews can be left on Amazon's site.
Urban Mission volunteer orientation
STEUBENVILLE -- The Urban Mission will be hosting its monthly volunteer orientation for those interested in becoming a volunteer. This month's orientation will take place at 1 p.m. Aug. 18 at the mission's food warehouse, located at 311 N. Sixth Street. The one-hour orientation will go over the process in becoming a volunteer and address any questions.
