WHEELING -- The Thursday Music Club's Membership Tea is scheduled to take place at 11 a.m. Sept. 7. at Char House on the Boulevard in Wheeling. Anyone is invited to attend, club officials explained, adding there is no charge to come as a guest in order to see what the club is all about.
However, reservations do have to be made. Those interested in attending can contact club member Sandy Smith at (304) 242-1628. Smith, along with members Linda Hemphill and Betty Lane will greet attendees at the door. Those interested in joining the club may do so at any time, officials noted. Annual dues are $20. Program committee chairman Anita Chops announced she and the committee have procured a year's worth of entertainment for the club meetings, allowing for a variety of performances throughout its season. Club officials stated the club is "very proud to announce our program for Sept. 7" in which five students will perform for members and guests. Three students will receive the Carol Austin Scholarship Award, while the other two will receive the Thursday Music Club Award for superior with honors. The students received a superior with honors rating during club auditions held March 24-25. Those receiving scholarships will be Ava Bretz, McKenna Everson and Jack Anderson. Students obtaining the club award with honors are Cecelia Burig and Tyler Stevens.
Anderson attends Jefferson County Christian School and is a student of Martha McLaughlin. He plays piano in the junior high school praise band. His interests include soccer, basketball, swimming and being family-oriented.
Bretz is a senior at Union Local High School. Everson is a sophomore at St. Clairsville High School.
