Church prepares for annual gyro sale
STEUBENVILLE -- The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church will hold its annual gyro sale between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. today.
The sale will take place at the church, located at 300 S. Fourth St. Those ordering should allow a minimum of 20 minutes for all orders.
Phone-in orders can be placed by calling (740) 282-9835. Orders may be faxed by dialing (740) 282-2091.
Free delivery will be made available to businesses or parishioners who order four or more gyros, organizers stated.
The cost for a gyro will be $9. Grape leaves will be sold three for $3.50. Baklava will cost $3 each.
Tyropitas are $3.50 and melamakaronas will be $2.50 apiece, officials noted.
Weir's Class of '67 luncheon
WEIRTON -- The Weir High School Class of 1967 will hold a luncheon beginning at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Theo Yianni's Restaurant, located at 322 American Way, Weirton.
All classmates and spouses are welcome.
Community center to hold dinner
EAST SPRINGFIELD -- The East Springfield Community Center will hold a dinner for all area residents from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.
The center is located on county Road 39 next to the firehouse, organizers noted.
The menu will consist of baked steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, bread and dessert.

SSA's monthly workshops/programs
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville Art Association has announced its monthly workshops and programs for September.
The SAA will hold an open studio at Summit Gallery in Weirton from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
A workshop will take place in Follansbee from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Crafts with Laura Scheetz, located at the former Follansbee Middle School/Bluewave, at 1400 Main St. The cost is $30 per person. All supplies are included and checks can be made out to: SAA, P. O. Box 1061, Steubenville, OH 43952 to register. Fees are due by Thursday or can be paid at the door. An open studio, proctored by 2023 spring-show juror Linda Barnicott, will be held from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Historic Fort Steuben.
Anyone interested in taking part should bring along media or work they wish to work on, according to organizers. Barnicott, a pastel artist, will give her artistic input for anyone wishing to receive feedback, it was noted.
Judy Schmidt will lead meeting's opening at 5 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Fort. Gina Judy will provide the introduction of new members and will lead the business meeting.
A quick talk on workshop topics will take place, along with a 10-minute demo on linocutting. The social committee is made up of Judy Schmidt, Fran Veltri, Paula Siebieda and Jeana Parr.
The SAA announced plein-air is scheduled to be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 22-23 at the farm of Treasurer Deanna Irvin, located at 2936 county Highway 15, Rayland.
Those planning on attending can call (740) 391-0093 to RSVP. Those visiting the farm should bring along a hat, chair, easel, bug-spray, suntan-lotion and sketchbook, along with a camera or favorite painting supplies. Irvin's property includes woods, barns and vistas which artists may use to plein-air. The option to walk far or remain close will be made available. The SAA will be taking part in a plein-air and artwork sale scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Beatty Park clubhouse.
Those attending are asked to bring six pieces of art, or three pieces if large, along with one's own method to display, including easels, for set up. Set up takes place between 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
"This will be a good chance to help with a good cause," organizers said of the Beatty Park event. Those with pieces to sell or anyone who participated in the August plein-air are asked to participate at the event.
Church to hold soup sale
WELLSBURG -- The Altar and Rosary Society of St John the Evangelist Church, located at 1300 Charles St., Wellsburg, will hold its monthly soup, sandwich and dessert sale from 11 a.m. until it is sold out on Wednesday. A variety of soups and sandwiches will be available, with an assortment of desserts. Dine-in or take out will be available. Orders can be called in at (304) 737-8051. All items are donated and made by the ladies of he parish.

Adults: Is Bigfoot real? Find out at 1 p.m. Sept. 23, when researcher and author Doug Waller discusses eyewitness reports.
Waller has been researching the Bigfoot phenomenon since 2006 and has written a collection of six books. Seating is limited and will be a first-come, first-served basis.
Teens: Be a part of the library's Anime club. Participants will watch movies, do crafts and other fun activities. This is for ages 11 to 17 and will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 19. Registration is required.
